Brian McKnight Marks Ex-Wife’s absence at Defamation Suit Verdict, Awarded $8.8 Million
LONDON, ENGLAND – October 16, 2025 – Singer Brian McKnight publicly celebrated a $8.8 million judgment in his defamation case against his ex-wife, julie McKnight, sharing the news in a video posted to his Instagram account. The verdict stems from allegations made in Julie mcknight’s book, “Mama Bear: Beautifully blended,” where she reportedly made false claims portraying Brian McKnight as an abusive husband and neglectful father.
The lawsuit centers on claims within the book, released in January 2025, wich details the experiences of a mother and her sons finding support within an extended family network. Brian McKnight, 55, previously made headlines for controversial statements about his children, referring to them as “evil” and a “product of sin.”
In the Instagram video, filmed in the English countryside approximately 90 minutes outside of London, McKnight stated, “It’s been a long journey getting to this day…But we are here…and the verdict is in.” He continued, stating his legal team had been handling communications while he and his family focused on their lives, adding, “trying to ruin my name and trying to bring harm to my family in a book filled with lies equals $8.8 million dollars.” He also indicated further legal action against those who promoted the alleged falsehoods.
McKnight also played a voicemail message purportedly from Julie McKnight, in which she instructs someone not to contact their son, Cole Nikolas “Niko” McKnight, who tragically died on May 30 following a two-year battle with cancer. The message, directed to both an individual named Niko and Leilani, states,”Do not text Niko again,do not call Niko again…I am very serious about this.” She concludes by addressing Brian directly, stating, “You know me…and you know that I mean what I’m saying to you.”
Brian McKnight shares two sons, the late niko McKnight, 32, and Brian McKnight Jr., 35, with Julie McKnight.
