Warsaw, Poland - A new biography of Polish national football team captain Robert Lewandowski has ignited controversy, revealing alleged tensions within the team and raising questions about his personal life.Former Polish football Association President Zbigniew Boniek swiftly defended Lewandowski, dismissing claims made in the book as unbelievable.
Boniek, who oversaw Lewandowski’s performance in major tournaments including Euro 2016, described the footballer as a “nice, normal, great person” and “fantastic, good person.” He stated Lewandowski has been “among the ten best players in Europe” for the last decade, acknowledging a natural difference in character due to their wealth and status. Boniek specifically addressed reports concerning Lewandowski’s wife, Anna, stating, “If there are any negative topics in this book…I’ll be honest – I don’t believe it.”
The biography, authored by Sebastian Staszewski, details alleged friction within the national team. staszewski, speaking on Bogdan Rymanowski’s program, claimed that national team members circulated memes mocking Anna Lewandowski during training camps. “When national team members start making fun of the captain of the Polish national team, it is not good,” Staszewski said. ”I think that no one wanted to tell Robert the truth for a long time…that some of Ania’s videos…don’t need to be shown. it started to get to Robert and it ended in a row at home.”
Further revelations from the book point to a strained relationship between Lewandowski and fellow Polish international Kamil Glik.Staszewski described the pair as “two fully different characters,” noting Glik’s stoicism and resilience. He recounted Glik playing an entire World Cup play-off match against Sweden despite a torn muscle, exemplifying his toughness.
