Watch: 2-Time Pipeline⁢ Master Barron Mamiya Charges Massive Teahupo’o

TEAHUPO’O, TAHITI – While the WSL‍ Finals awaited conditions at Cloudbreak in early September, Hawaiian surfer Barron Mamiya, a two-time Pipeline Pro champion, was charging massive swells at Teahupo’o alongside a crew of‍ local surfers and freesurfers. A cinematic highlight reel of‍ the session, compiled by Parker Davis with contributions from Chris‌ Bryan, Andy Woodward, Domenic Mosqueira, and Ian Grose, showcases a day of exceptional surfing at the world-renowned Tahitian break.

Mamiya’s recent success at Pipeline – winning ‍the Pipe pro in both 2022 and 2023 – positions him among the all-time great backside tube riders. He notably defeated ⁣John John Florence in ⁢both contests, including a final victory and another heat where he scored a 10-point ride.

Teahupo’o presents a‍ different challenge than the shifting dynamics of Pipeline. While‍ Pipeline can rapidly transition between closeouts and perfect barrels, Teahupo’o demands ⁣a consistent approach: a committed ⁣drop, pull-up, and tube ride. despite this consistency, the wave⁢ remains incredibly dangerous, ⁣as demonstrated ‌by⁢ near-death experiences ‌suffered by UK surfer Tom Lowe and Tahitian local Lorenzo Avvenenti earlier this year.

The footage‍ captures Mamiya⁣ and the⁢ crew navigating⁢ the powerful tahitian reef break with skill‍ and courage, a display⁢ of surfing that, according ⁢to the video’s description, exists “in a class all their own.”
