“Aunt Roxie” Spec From Johnny Rosenthal Sells To Netflix (EXCLUSIVE)
Netflix has acquired the comedy spec script Aunt roxie from writer Johnny Rosenthal, with plans to develop the project through Ryan Reynolds‘ Maximum Effort production company and Amy Williams. The deal marks another significant script purchase for the streamer and adds to Maximum Effort’s growing slate of projects.
The story centers on a free-spirited writer who unexpectedly finds herself caring for her sister’s children – navigating the complexities of teenage romance and elementary school dynamics alongside her own personal life – and ultimately discovering the responsibilities and rewards of family.
rosenthal’s previous writing credits include Bad Santa 2, a film from the franchise that has generated over $100 million in worldwide box office revenue, with a third installment currently in growth. He recently sold Christmas in Paradise to amazon MGM Studios and United Artists. He is represented by Paradigm, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and McKuin Frankel.
Maximum Effort’s recent projects include an Amazon MGM Studios remake of Thunderbolt & Lightfoot starring Reynolds, and the recently released Deadpool & Wolverine, which became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time with over $1.3 billion in global earnings. Other upcoming titles include the documentary John Candy: I Like Me, Animal Friends, The Last Disturbance of madeline Hynde, mayday (also starring Reynolds), and Close Personal Friends.
Williams’ producing credits include Rally caps, Mothers and Daughters, and The Morrison Project, which won Best Documentary at the hamptons Film Festival.
