Atlanta-based attorney Michael Bey has been elected president of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the association announced. Bey’s election took place in late July 2024, and he will assume the presidency in July 2025.
Bey,46,is the founder of Bey & Associates,a law firm with offices in Atlanta,Macon,Cincinnati,New Orleans,and Birmingham,employing approximately 15 lawyers. He will balance his duties as AAJ president with continuing his legal practice in Atlanta.
“It is indeed an honor to be nominated and elected by my peers to serve as the AAJ’s next president, especially at my relatively young age,” Bey said.
The AAJ represents trial lawyers across the United States and advocates for a fair and just civil justice system. Bey’s platform focuses on protecting consumer rights and holding corporations accountable.
Bey’s career has centered on representing plaintiffs in cases involving significant harm, including those related to product liability and environmental contamination. he has been a vocal advocate against the use of harmful chemicals in agriculture.
“Nobody wants cancerous vegetables in their grocery cart,” he said, referencing concerns about pesticide use.
He succeeds Bruce Clark, the current AAJ president. Another Atlanta attorney, Navan Ward of Beasley Allen, previously served as AAJ president from 2021 to 2022.
Bey’s wife, Ardra L. Bey,is a municipal court judge in Atlanta.
An AAJ spokesperson stated that Bey’s election reflects his ”long-standing leadership and dedication to advancing civil justice.”
“He has built a reputation as a formidable advocate for those who have been harmed through no fault of their own,” the spokesperson added.
