FC Bayern Munich Blocks ChatGPT, develops Internal AI Platform for Employees
MUNICH – FC Bayern Munich is prioritizing data security and proprietary processes by blocking employee access to public AI platforms like ChatGPT and instead implementing its own internally developed artificial intelligence solution.Approximately 300 employees – roughly one-third of the club’s workforce – are now utilizing the new platform, according to club representatives.
The move reflects a growing trend among large organizations seeking to harness the power of AI while mitigating risks associated with data privacy and intellectual property. By creating a “private cloud” AI environment, Bayern Munich aims to guarantee data security and integrate company-specific workflows. This strategy ensures sensitive information remains within the association and that the AI tools are tailored to the club’s unique needs.
“We’ve moved to blocking various AI platforms…to somewhat force our employees to use our own platform,” explained a club spokesperson. The decision to build internally wasn’t met with anticipated resistance. “We thought there would be a little more resistance, but that wasn’t the case. The employees are happy that they have a flexible and simple solution,” the spokesperson added.
The club is currently rolling out the AI tools across all departments, signaling a broader commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into its operations. The initiative was first reported by BILD and highlights the increasing importance of AI in professional sports, extending beyond player performance analysis to encompass internal business functions.
