Minimally Invasive Techniques Revolutionize Aortic Aneurysm Treatment, KRH Clinics Lead Regional Care
Gehrden/Hanover, Germany – A recent specialist event hosted by KRH Klinikum Robert Koch Gehrden and KRH klinikum Siloah highlighted the dramatic advancements in treating aortic aneurysms, shifting from major open surgery to less invasive, custom-fitted stent procedures. The event underscored the growing prominence of endovascular repair as the standard of care, offering patients faster recovery times and increased precision.
Historically, aortic aneurysms – bulges in the aorta - required extensive and stressful open-heart operations. Today, however, the landscape of treatment has been transformed by the advancement of stent prostheses tailored to individual patient needs. These prostheses are deployed via small incisions in the groin, stabilizing the aorta without the need for large surgical openings. In many cases, these procedures can even be performed without general anesthesia.
The KRH Gehrden Clinic and KRH siloah Clinic have established themselves as regional leaders in providing this advanced care, adhering to the standards set by the joint federal committee for aortic aneurysm patients. This success is built on a foundation of close interdisciplinary collaboration.
“Vascular surgeons, angiologists and radiologists have to work hand in hand,” explained Dr. Götz Voshage, Medical Director of the KRH Institute for Radiology and Chief physician of the Radiology Departments at KRH Klinikum Robert Koch Gehrden and Neustadt am Rübenberge.”This is the only way we can offer our patients the best possible therapy.”
The specialist event, focused on “Techniques for endovascular and surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms,” provided a platform for knowledge sharing and professional exchange. Experienced specialists engaged directly with both referring colleagues and young doctors, fostering a collaborative learning habitat.
The event was made possible thru the support of sponsors including Siemens Healthineers,Medtronic,Lombard Endovastec,Gore,Artivion and terumo Aortic, who provided facts and direct dialog opportunities for attendees.
