AMD is reportedly naming its next generation of GPUs after characters from the Transformers franchise, marking a important departure from its previous naming schemes. The move signals a cultural shift for AMD’s Radeon graphics cards, which historically drew inspiration from aquatic life.
This strategy represents a notable change for AMD. Previously, Radeon GPUs featured names evoking fish and other sea creatures. Now, the company is embracing a more globally recognizable and impactful approach by aligning with the popular Transformers brand. This connection aims to add a distinctive identity to the upcoming GPUs.
While official release dates remain unconfirmed, AMD expects GPUs based on the RDNA 5 architecture to arrive in late 2026 or 2027.
