Kessler Twins, Alice and ellen, Die by Assisted Suicide at 89
Identical twin entertainers Alice Kessler and Ellen Kessler have died at their home near Munich, Germany, using medical aid in dying. They were 89 years old. The news was first reported by german publication Bild.
the Kessler Twins, known for their synchronized performances as singers, dancers, and actresses, reportedly chose to end their lives together, stating they “no longer wanted to live.” Their deaths come as assisted suicide is a legally permissible option in Germany under specific conditions established by a 2019 constitutional ruling.
Germany’s regulations, as outlined by Dignity in Dying, allow individuals to seek assistance in ending their lives, provided they act responsibly and of their own free will, are of legal age, and have legal capacity. However, the law prohibits “active euthanasia,” meaning a third party cannot administer the lethal act.
Throughout their decades-long career, Alice and ellen Kessler achieved widespread recognition in Europe and made appearances on prominent American television programs, including The Red Skelton Hour and The Ed Sullivan Show. They also appeared in the 1969 film Sodom and Gomorrah and graced the cover of Life Magazine. Later in life, they posed for the Italian edition of Playboy at age 40 and were honored with awards in both Germany and Italy for their contributions to the entertainment industry.
The twins had previously expressed their wish to be buried together, alongside their mother, Elsa, and their dog, Yello, a request documented in their wills.
