eSIM Activation Now Possible on Older iPhones & iPads in Turkey After Reset

Istanbul, Turkey – Apple users in Turkey with iPhones or iPads purchased before June 23, 2020 can now activate eSIM functionality following a device reset, addressing a previously reported issue where eSIM was disabled by default on some models. Teh workaround comes as Apple continues to expand eSIM support globally, offering users greater flexibility in managing cellular connectivity.

Some iPhones and iPads sold in Turkey were initially shipped without active eSIM capabilities. However, devices purchased and activated after June 23, 2020, shoudl have eSIM automatically enabled upon setup and do not require the following steps. If eSIM remains inactive on a newer device, users should contact their mobile carrier.

For devices purchased before June 23, 2020, activation requires a full device reset. Users are strongly advised to back up their device before proceeding.

here’s how to activate eSIM on eligible devices:

  1. Back up your iPhone or iPad and ensure it’s running the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  2. Navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset.
  3. Select Erase all Content and Settings.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password and confirm the device erasure.
  5. After the reset is complete, restore your iPhone or iPad using the backup created in step one.

Once the restoration process is finished, you should be able to set up an eSIM on your device.

Important Note: Turkish regulations require IMEI registration with the Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR) for devices using roaming data services for a cumulative total of 91 days or more within any 120-day period. Apple recommends contacting CEIR for further information regarding this requirement.
