While many manufacturers have discontinued regular cab short bed options, Chevrolet is maintaining this configuration specifically for commercial and fleet customers, as well as individual buyers seeking an affordable, capable work truck. This decision provides a crucial option for those needing a full-size pickup without the added cost and complexity of crew cab models. The 2026 model is powered exclusively by a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine producing 310 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s available with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive and boasts a towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds and a payload of 2,250 pounds. EPA fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. the truck features a 79.4-inch bed and a curb weight of 4,410 pounds.
Exterior colour choices are limited to white,red,black,and metallic gray,with interior upholstery offered in black vinyl or cloth. Options are intentionally sparse, reflecting the WT trim’s focus on affordability and durability.
A recent Motor Trend review acknowledged the engine “has plenty of punch,” but noted concerns about ride quality when unladen and criticized the ”cheap-feeling materials and outdated tech” in the base model. The review also pointed out limited Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including only lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking. Despite these criticisms, Motor Trend conceded the Silverado 1500 delivers a ”good driving experience” for the price point.
