Tiffany Stratton will carry her WWE Women’s Championship to Crown Jewel after successfully defending it against both Jade Cargill and Nia Jax in the main event of friday’s “WWE SmackDown.”
The victory marks Stratton’s ninth successful title defense in 267 days as champion. Her journey to this point included defeating Cargill at SummerSlam, following Cargill’s win in the Queen of the Ring tournament, and overcoming Jax, whom she dethroned earlier this year when cashing in her Money in the Bank contract. Now, Stratton will face WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel, wiht both titles on the line to determine a unified champion.
Throughout the triple-threat match, momentum swung wildly between all three competitors. Jax attempted to execute her signature Annihilator on both Stratton and Cargill, while Stratton countered with her Prettiest Moonsault Ever. cargill appeared to secure the win with a Jaded on Stratton, but Jax interfered, pulling the referee out of the ring before the three-count could be completed.
The interference led to a brawl between Cargill and Jax on the outside, during which Cargill sustained a cut above her eye. Back in the ring, Cargill delivered Eye of the Storm to Jax and went for the pin, but Jax kicked out. Stratton then re-entered the fray, delivering a dropkick to Cargill and attempting a pinfall on Jax. Though the referee initially signaled a two-count despite Stratton’s apparent three-count, a discussion between the referee and Jax followed before Stratton ultimately secured the victory with an elbow drop and a final Prettiest Moonsault Ever.
