Three-Year-old Becomes World’s Youngest Rated Chess Player
A three-year-old boy from India has become the youngest player ever to achieve a FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) ranking, the international governing body for chess.Kushwaha, whose full name was not instantly available, earned the rating after defeating three rated players in competitions held across his state and elsewhere in India.
“It’s a matter of great pride and honour for us that our son has become the youngest chess player in the world to achieve a FIDE ranking,” Kushwaha’s father, Siddharth Singh, told ETV Bharat. His parents aspire for him to become a grandmaster.The achievement highlights India’s growing prominence in the world of competitive chess, a nation already celebrated for producing grandmasters like Viswanathan Anand, a five-time World Cup winner, and the recently crowned World Champion, Gukesh Dommaraju.
India has a thriving chess culture and consistently ranks among the top nations in the sport, boasting a large and dedicated player base. A FIDE rating is a crucial step for any aspiring chess player, signifying a recognized skill level and opening doors to participation in rated tournaments globally.
