The Violent Past of Disgraced Dentist Steven Lin Revealed

July 1, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A Pattern of Violence

Steven Lin stands accused of a violent attack on a man months before allegedly nearly killing two women. Court records and law enforcement statements paint a troubling portrait of a man now facing serious criminal charges that have drawn intense scrutiny from local authorities.

The December Assault

Lin’s legal troubles trace back to December 2022. According to a police report obtained by Nine.com.au, he was charged with assault following an altercation in a public park. The victim, a 35-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. Police stated Lin “used physical force without provocation.” While a March 2023 court hearing resulted in a conditional discharge, the case resurfaced late last year following new allegations.

Residential Attack in November

In November 2023, police arrested Lin again after an alleged attack on two women at a residential address. Both victims, aged 28 and 31, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, though one required hospitalization. A source familiar with the investigation confirmed the women had no prior relationship with Lin. While no motive has been disclosed, authorities are currently examining potential links between these incidents and the earlier assault.

Regulatory Scrutiny and Practice Closure

The New South Wales Health Department has launched a review of Lin’s professional license. “The safety of patients and the public is our priority. We are cooperating fully with ongoing investigations,” a spokesperson stated. Lin’s dental practice in the suburb of Chatswood remains closed pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

A History of Disciplinary Warnings

Local media have highlighted a history of disciplinary actions against the dentist. The Australian Dental Board investigated a 2019 complaint alleging unprofessional behavior, which resulted in a warning. A second complaint in 2021 regarding delayed treatment was resolved through a formal apology from Lin’s practice.

Legal Stakes and Professional Oversight

With a hearing scheduled for April 2024, prosecutors are emphasizing the severity of the allegations. While the assault charges carry potential prison time, the outcome rests on evidence presented in court; Lin’s defense attorney has not publicly commented. Meanwhile, the Australian Medical Association is calling for stricter oversight. A representative noted, “This case underscores the need for rigorous vetting processes to protect both patients and the public.”

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward. A police spokesperson reiterated, “We are committed to ensuring justice is served and that the community remains safe.”
