The story of Chespirito and Graciela Fernández after divorcing

Chespirito’s First Wife Honored in New Series

Graciela Fernández, largely unknown to the public, is highlighted in a series about the famed comedian’s life.

Before Chespirito achieved widespread fame, Graciela Fernández was his wife and the mother of his six children; now, she is being recognized in Chespirito: Without Wanting, a biographical series created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños’ children.

A Hidden Figure No More

While Florinda Meza is widely recognized as Gómez Bolaños’ partner, this series sheds light on Graciela Fernández’s significant role. Roberto Gómez Fernández, Chespirito’s son, suggests viewers reserve judgment until seeing all episodes, particularly regarding the portrayal of Meza.

In fact, some older comments and stories about Meza’s behavior have resurfaced, painting her in a less favorable light. For example, she once stated, in Chespirito’s presence, that his seven biggest flaws were his children and his wife.

Lasting Affection

Graciela Fernández passed away in 2013, one year before Roberto Gómez Bolaños. According to Roberto Gómez Fernández, his father considered reconciling with her, though it ultimately did not happen. He told interviewer Mara Patricia Castañeda:

“As most of the important decisions there are doubts, there are consequences of taking a path and claudicating in another, there are attempts to return; it happened in real life and of course it happens in the Bioserie.”

Gómez Fernández described his parents’ bond as “something very godly”, emphasizing the enduring love and respect between them. The biographic series arrives at a time when 55% of adults aged 50 and older are divorced or separated, highlighting the importance of maintaining respectful relationships even after parting ways (U.S. Census Bureau).

Graciela Fernández felt a deep love for Roberto Gómez Bolaños even after he left her for Florinda Meza, her son confesses.

Enduring Support

Chespirito remained a constant presence in Graciela’s life, offering unwavering support and affection, his son said.

“They were always in contact, my father did not stop supporting my mother in every way, economically, of course, my mother never lacked anything, it was my father who was always supporting, until the last day,” Gómez Fernández stated.

Despite their separation, Gómez Bolaños never spoke ill of his former wife. “I never heard him a complaint of my mother’s way of being, on the contrary, he always spoke very well about her,” he added.

Forgiveness and Acceptance

Gómez Fernández also revealed that his mother forgave his father and chose not to pursue another relationship after their separation in 1989. She “made the very early decision of ‘I will not have a partner’.”

Graciela Fernández once shared her happiness during her 23 years with Chespirito, acknowledging that it felt like “a share of happiness that ended when Florinda took it.”
