The Jokers Films revises early 2027 schedule for Rita Cooper and more
Distributor The Jokers Films has revised its early 2027 release schedule, pushing back Guy Nattiv’s drama The Liberation of Rita Cooper while adding new features and classic Japanese animation re-releases to its slate.
Schedule Shifts and New Additions for Early 2027
The Liberation of Rita Cooper will now debut on March 24, 2027, moving from its previously planned December 30, 2026 slot. Directed by Guy Nattiv, the film is inspired by a true story and is set in 1980s New Jersey. The narrative follows Rita, a woman weighed down by a demanding daily routine and past trauma, who finds a sense of calm after meeting Ricky, the leader of a women’s community. Rita must ultimately decide whether her newfound path offers genuine freedom or cult-like beliefs.
The distributor has also scheduled Bourreau des cœurs, directed by Carine May and Hakim Zouhani, for January 20, 2027. Starring Birane Ba, Zoé Marchal, and Fadily Camara, the comedy follows an art scammer named Moussa as he infiltrates the contemporary art world to steal a prized Dogon mask, provided he avoids falling in love.
Following the animated film Blaise by Dimitri Planchon and Jean-Paul Guigue on February 3, 2027, Mohsen Gharaei’s family drama Falling House arrives on February 17, 2027. The Iranian feature won an acting prize for Laleh Marzban at the 2026 Venice Film Festival and explores the fractures within a working-class Tehran family caught between the imminent demolition of their home and the eldest daughter’s dreams of independence.
Finally, The Jokers will bring two foundational works of Japanese animation back to the big screen on April 14, 2027: Taiji Yabushita’s The White Snake from 1958 and Isao Takahata’s Horus: Prince of the Sun from 1968.
