French Consumers Increasingly stockpiling Everyday Goods During Black Friday, Amazon France Reports
PARIS – A shift in French consumer behavior is underway this Black Friday, with shoppers increasingly using promotional periods to stock up on essential household goods, according to Frédéric Duval, General Manager of Amazon France. While electronics adn toys traditionally dominate Black Friday sales, duval notes a surge in purchases of everyday items like diapers, coffee, food, and detergent – a trend he describes as ”quite new.”
This change reflects a growing desire among French consumers to offset rising living costs by capitalizing on discounts for frequently purchased products. “The French are taking advantage of these good deals to stock up a little more products and so that it is cheaper for them in their daily lives,” Duval explained friday on franceinfo. “We see an intensification of orders during this period.” The move towards stockpiling everyday essentials signals a broader economic sensitivity among French households, as they navigate inflationary pressures and seek to maximize savings.
Traditionally, Black Friday at Amazon France has seen strong demand for electronics and appliances.Duval confirmed these categories remain popular, ranking second in sales after everyday goods. Anticipation of the holiday season also drives significant purchases of toys, placing them in third position among top-selling items. Though, the prioritization of essential goods marks a notable departure from previous years and underscores a changing consumer landscape.
