The enemy occupied another settlement in the Sumy region – Deepstate

Russian Forces Advance in Eastern Ukraine

New territorial gains reported near Sumy and Kharkiv regions

Recent battlefield assessments indicate Russian troops have occupied Yablonovka in the Sumy region. The DeepState analytical project confirmed the development overnight, highlighting increased enemy pressure across several fronts.

Expanded Front Lines

In addition to Yablonovka, DeepState analysts reported enemy advances near Yunakovka in Sumy Oblast. Further south, Russian forces are also reportedly pushing closer to Khatnee and Romanovka in the Kharkiv region, and have intensified operations around Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast.

Ongoing Operations in Sumy

This latest report follows a series of territorial shifts in the Sumy region throughout June. Previously, DeepState documented Russian occupation of Andreevka and Diver, as well as Konstantinovka. Russian forces have been observed expanding entry points for their troops in the area.

In early June, the analytical project also flagged the occupation of Vladimirovka and two other settlements in northern Sumy Oblast. At that time, Russian troops were noted to have made tactical advancements near three additional locations.

Contextualizing the Conflict

The current situation reflects an ongoing strategic push by Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. For perspective, the total number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine has exceeded 3.7 million as of early 2025, according to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC).

Historical Precedents

Last month, an analysis titled “Are you stepping on Tetkino? We are stepping on a rake.” explored the dynamics of the Sumy region, questioning the strategic outcomes of Russian incursions. This suggests a complex and evolving battlefield situation.
