The Duskbloods Network Test Surpassed Elden Ring Nightreign Applicants

August 25, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

The Duskbloods, FromSoftware’s upcoming online action game for the Nintendo Switch 2, drew more applicants to its closed network test than the multi-platform tests for Elden Ring Nightreign, according to statements from developer studio representatives. FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao described the response as surprising despite the hardware limitations of a single-platform launch.

Demand on Single Hardware

Server Troubles and Multiplayer Scale

The network test for The Duskbloods ran across multiple limited sessions from August 21 to August 24, 2026. The initial session experienced severe server problems and was eventually closed before developers worked on the service for subsequent testing periods. The game supports up to eight players per match on the Nintendo Switch 2, blending player-versus-player combat with encounters against computer-controlled enemies and bosses.

The Mechanics of a Dusk Battle

The central gameplay loop, referred to in previews as a Dusk Battle, requires participants to accumulate points known as Virtue. Players can gather Virtue by defeating artificial intelligence opponents, exploring the map, securing control points, and engaging other players. The active player count shrinks from eight down to three remaining contestants, who then face off in a final free-for-all arena to determine the winner.

Weighing Accessibility and Exclusivity

While FromSoftware has not released exact application figures for either title, the comparative disparity in accessibility is noted. Elden Ring Nightreign conducted its network tests across multiple platforms, giving it a much broader hardware base than The Duskbloods, which is exclusive to the recently launched Nintendo Switch 2.

Character Roster and Combat Systems

Prior to entering a match, participants select from six available Bloodsworn characters and eight computer-controlled companions called Kin, with the full commercial release expected to expand the roster to more than ten Bloodsworn figures. The combat mechanics combine traditional FromSoftware systems, such as guard counters and evasion maneuvers, with heightened mobility features including high jumps and ranged special abilities.

Unconfirmed 2026 Release Window

Official release scheduling remains unconfirmed beyond a planned 2026 launch window, though industry reports have pointed toward a potential September 24 release date.
