Thai Actress Piploy Comes Out as Queer | PinkNews

March 21, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Thai actress Kanyarat Ruangrung, known professionally as Piploy, publicly identified as queer on her Instagram story on March 18, 2026, responding to a fan’s question about her sexual orientation. The 25-year-traditional actress stated, “No worries, you can question. I’d say I’m queer, I don’t really like putting labels on love, I just proceed with what feels right,” according to reports from The Pink News.

Ruangrung’s announcement comes after a career that has increasingly featured roles in LGBTQ+ themed productions. She gained initial recognition for her performance as Soda in the 2020 television series The Shipper and later as the 15-year-old Jaya Janiya in 55:15 Never Too Late (2021). More recently, she appeared in the sapphic series The Trainee (2024) and Whale Store xoxo (2025), where she played Noey, a character with romantic interest in the female lead, Wan.

In 2025, Ruangrung received critical acclaim for her role as Chatfah in the mystery thriller Hide & Sis, winning the Asian Academy Creative Awards’ Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for the Thailand region and earning a nomination at the 30th Asian Television Awards. Hide & Sis follows three sisters investigating the disappearance of their youngest sibling after a fall from a vacation home, with all four sisters considered both heirs and suspects.

Following her public statement, Ruangrung posted on X (formerly Twitter) expressing conflicted emotions, writing, “At first I felt relieved, but now I’m not so sure,” suggesting a potentially mixed reaction from fans.

Kanyarat Ruangrung began her entertainment career as a runner-up in the 2018 Miss Teen Thailand competition before signing with GMMTV. Her first role was as Laila in the 2019 television series Blacklist. She is currently a student at Bangkok University’s School of Fine and Applied Arts, majoring in Communication Design, having completed her secondary education at Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstration School.
