Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Embark on⁢ 100-Mile relay to Deliver Game Ball to Austin

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (November 28, 2024) – In a revival of a decades-old tradition, approximately‌ 80 members of the Texas ⁣A&M‍ Corps of Cadets began a ‌100-mile relay ⁤run ⁢on Thanksgiving Day ‌to deliver the game ‍ball for tomorrow’s Lone Star Showdown against the University of ⁤texas. The cadets departed ⁣from a lot near Kyle Field at 7:30 p.m., escorted⁣ by⁢ police, with a planned ⁣arrival in Austin by 11 a.m. Friday.

The relay will ‍culminate with a march alongside the ⁤Fightin’⁢ Texas Aggie Band into⁣ Austin, completing the delivery of the ball⁤ ahead of the 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

“the goal of this is to be ⁢able to⁣ inspire⁢ the next generation of Aggies and to be able to ‌encourage the entire campus,” explained Carson Seiber, a senior member of the Corps and‌ event coordinator. “The entire Aggie network is brought together because we, as the Corps, were ⁤inspiring and helping ⁢our Aggie team,‌ the football team, as they get ready to take on Texas.”

Seiber, who envisioned this event⁤ since learning‍ of the matchup during his freshman year,‌ spearheaded ‍the effort to reinstate the tradition, which hasn’t⁣ been observed for over two decades. “I had ⁣this dream, and I kind of talked to people, and now that it’s my senior year,I really had‍ an idea about why not ⁣bring the⁢ tradition back, why not kind of leave a mark, leave ⁢a legacy on the Corp and Texas A&M‌ that hasn’t really happened in‍ a long time,”‌ he said.

The plan ⁤was pitched two⁢ months ago and finalized within the last week. Seiber emphasized the importance of Texas A&M’s core values in ‍fostering this spirit of unity.

“I think it’s been really cool to see the fact that when the Aggies are successful, we ⁤see our Aggies support each other, but⁢ also ⁣in times when ⁣our Aggies have not been good at football or tragedies like Bonfire, our Aggies are there in victory or defeat,” Seiber added.
