Portsmouth defender Terry Devlin says recent transfer interest from other clubs has boosted his confidence as the team battles to avoid relegation from the Championship. The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international was subject of speculation during the winter transfer window, with reports linking him with a move to Wrexham, but manager John Mousinho publicly stated the club had no intention of selling the player.
Devlin, who joined Portsmouth from Glentoran in 2023, has made 86 appearances for the club, scoring five goals. He has demonstrated versatility, playing in multiple positions for Mousinho’s side, including a stint at right-back last season. More recently, he has been deployed in midfield, a position he occupied in a pre-season match against Havant and Waterlooville in July 2025, where his performance reportedly impressed the manager.
“It shows that I’m doing something right so hopefully it should give me a bit of confidence,” Devlin told BBC Radio Solent. “My only focus is on Portsmouth right now and finishing the season strong.”
Portsmouth currently sit 21st in the Championship table, one point above Leicester City, though they have two games in hand. The team faces a crucial match against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening, with Charlton having taken seven points from their last three games, establishing a six-point lead over Portsmouth.
Devlin acknowledged the importance of the upcoming fixture following a recent defeat to Sheffield United. “It’s even bigger now [the Charlton game] after losing [to Sheffield United],” he said. “We need to go there and obtain a good result and bring them closer to us.”
