Teens Include Boy With Autism in Heartwarming Massachusetts Encounter
“More often than not, he’s not met with kindness,” Christina Caron said after a group of teenagers invited her 7-year-old son, Tristan, who has autism, to play with them at a Bellingham family entertainment center.
The encounter took place on a Monday at Urban Air Adventure Park in Bellingham, Massachusetts, CBS News reported. Caron was waiting in line to buy popcorn for Tristan when the group of teenagers walked up and asked him to join them. The teens played catch with Tristan and included him in a game of hide-and-seek.
An Unexpected Moment of Inclusion in Bellingham
For Caron, the experience stood out because her son often faces social exclusion. She noted that children perceived as different are sometimes viewed by others as a threat or simply as something unfamiliar.
“To see these teenagers just be so inclusive, and so welcoming and warm, it was just a really good feeling,” Caron said. She added that seeing young people accept Tristan for who he is provided deep reassurance.
Chad Darling, the owner of Urban Air Adventure Park, pointed out that the interaction highlights the positive connections that occur when young people reach out to strangers. Darling noted that the facility has operated for about eight years, making it a frequent backdrop for children making new friends.
Connecting Through Social Media and Plans for a Return Visit
Following the visit to the adventure park, Caron used Facebook to identify the teenagers involved in the game. She expressed her hope to connect directly with their parents to share how much the afternoon meant to her family.
Urban Air Adventure Park management has also reached out to Caron. The facility plans to invite everyone involved back to the park for a special day dedicated to celebrating the teenagers’ gesture.
“It just shows kids, teenagers, a small moment, anyone really, that a small moment, a small act of kindness can really turn someone’s day around,” Caron said. “It can change the trajectory, and it just meant so much to me.”
