Cornish Archer Aims for World Stage
Teenager Secures Spot in Prestigious Canadian Championships
A talented teenager from north Cornwall is set to represent Great Britain at the World Archery Youth Championships in Canada, following a successful outing in Europe.
European Success Fuels World Championship Ambitions
Seventeen-year-old Chloe achieved sixth place overall in the under-18 compound women’s category at the European Youth Cup in Slovenia late last month. She also contributed to a bronze medal win as part of the Great Britain under-18 mixed team.
Reflecting on her European performance, Chloe stated, It was amazing, that’s what I needed to do for my last trip to get me ready for the world championships in Canada.
A Lifelong Passion for Archery
Chloe‘s journey in archery began at the tender age of four, with her specialization in compound bows starting when she was just eight. She described the complexity of her chosen discipline, noting that compound bows feature cams, wheels, and multiple strings, making them intricate pieces of equipment.
On my bow I have a side rod, a long rod, a sight, a peep I look through into the sight, cams and three strings. It’s very complicated,
she explained.
While her usual shooting distance is 50 metres (164ft), Chloe has experience shooting at up to 70 metres (230ft).
Olympic Dreams on the Horizon
Looking beyond the upcoming world championships, Chloe has her sights set on a much larger prize: representing Great Britain at the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane. I’m living the dream,
she added.
Her dedication is inspiring, especially considering the growing popularity of archery; participation in archery clubs across the UK has seen a steady increase, with many reporting waiting lists for new members, highlighting the sport’s rising appeal.
