TC Fina: Cyclone Intensifies, Impacts Top End and Tiwi Islands

Tropical ⁢Cyclone​ Fina Tracks Towards Northern Territory ​Coastline

Darwin, NT – Tropical Cyclone fina ‍is⁤ currently tracking on a south-west path through the Timor Sea and is ⁣forecast to perhaps reach category three⁢ intensity on Saturday as it ‍moves through the Van Diemen Gulf, according to the Bureau ⁢of ⁣Meteorology (BOM). A map released by the BOM, ⁣issued at 4:21am CST on Saturday,⁣ details⁤ the ​120-hour forecast ‌for‌ the cyclone’s path, alongside ⁢high-wind, ⁢cyclone watch and cyclone warning areas.

the approaching cyclone prompts urgent readiness for communities across ​the northern territory. The warning zone encompasses the entire Tiwi ⁣Islands and darwin, ⁤extending from‌ Maningrida in the east to Cape Don on the Cobourg Peninsula, including ‌the communities of ​Minjilang and Warruwi. Residents within this zone are advised to instantly commence​ or continue preparations, focusing on securing boats and property.⁤ A watch zone ‍is⁢ also in effect⁤ for areas from Wadeye​ to south‍ of the Daly ⁢River Mouth, where residents are‍ urged to consider potential actions should the ⁤cyclone threat escalate.

The BOM’s tracking map illustrates the cyclone’s projected‍ course, indicating ‌a ‌potential ⁣landfall along the ⁤NT ‍coastline. The forecast highlights the⁢ possibility‍ of​ Fina intensifying to ‌a category⁤ three system, bringing with it ⁣destructive winds and heavy rainfall.
