Justin Baldoni Sought to Subpoena Taylor Swift in Legal Battle with Blake Lively
NEW YORK - Actor Justin Baldoni attempted to subpoena Taylor Swift as part of his legal dispute with Blake Lively, alleging Lively leveraged her celebrity friendships to exert undue influence over the film “It Ends With us,” according to court documents. The effort was ultimately unsuccessful, and Baldoni’s lawsuits against Lively and others were dismissed in June 2025.
The legal saga stems from allegations of sexual harassment and defamation surrounding the production of “It Ends With Us,” in which Baldoni starred opposite and directed Lively. The dispute escalated in December 2024 when Lively sued Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios, claiming sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni vehemently denied the accusations and countersued Lively and her husband,Ryan reynolds, for defamation and extortion, seeking $400 million in damages. He also filed suit against The New York Times for its reporting on Lively’s claims.
Baldoni’s legal team argued Lively had used her connections with high-profile figures, including Swift, to gain creative control over the film.He sought Swift’s deposition to support this claim. However, Swift’s legal team successfully fought the subpoena, arguing it was a tactic to generate “tabloid clickbait” rather than focusing on the facts of the case. A representative for Swift told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that Swift’s involvement in the film was limited to licensing a song.
Baldoni afterward dropped the subpoena against Swift. In June 2025, Judge Liman dismissed all of Baldoni’s suits. A trial related to the initial allegations is currently scheduled to begin on March 9, 2026. The initial speculation about a feud between Lively and Baldoni began when they opted for separate press tours following the film’s August 2024 release.
