Taylor Swift Dismisses Fan Theory Suggesting marriage Will End Her Music Career
LONDON – Taylor Swift directly addressed and refuted a fan theory suggesting she would retire from music following her marriage to Travis Kelce, calling the idea ”shockingly offensive.” The singer discussed the speculation during an appearance on BBC Radio 2’s “The Scott Mills Breakfast Show” following the August 26 announcement of her engagement.
Swift was prompted about the theory after host Scott Mills relayed that some fans believed she would prioritize family and end her career. “What? No?” Swift responded, visibly surprised. She clarified that marriage isn’t a reason to abandon one’s profession, and emphasized that music is central to her identity.
“It’s not why people get married,” Swift stated. “So that they can quit their job. It’s also like music for me is…”
She further explained that Kelce actively supports her artistic pursuits. “I love the person that I am wiht as he loves what I do and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music,” she said. “That’s the coolest thing about Trav, like he’s so… he is so passionate about what he does, that me being passionate about what I do, it connects us.”
Swift highlighted the parallels between their careers, noting they both perform for roughly three and a half hours in NFL stadiums – she in a dressing room for a show, and Kelce in a locker room for a game. ”For him, it’s practice. For me, it’s rehearsal. For him, it’s a game. For me, it’s a show,” she explained. “We just call them different things. It’s a very similar thing.”
During a separate appearance on “The graham Norton Show” on Friday, Swift revealed Kelce “crushed” the proposal, going ”all out – 10 out of 10.”
