Taylor Fritz Reaches US Open Quarter-Finals with Dominating Win Over tomas Machac
NEW YORK - Taylor fritz advanced to the quarter-finals of the US Open on Monday with a commanding 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tomas Machac. The American delivered a flawless performance, not facing a single break point throughout the match inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Fritz’s run to the quarter-finals comes at a time when American men’s tennis has largely faltered at Flushing Meadows, with Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, and Tommy Paul all previously eliminated from the tournament. He now aims to become the frist American man to win a major singles title as Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open triumph. Last year, Fritz fell one victory short of achieving that milestone.
The win showcased Fritz’s aggressive play, highlighted by 30 winners – including 14 aces – and a strong first-serve percentage of 91%. He committed just 18 unforced errors. this result contrasts with their previous encounter at the United Cup earlier this year, where Machac led before retiring. Fritz now leads their head-to-head series 3-0.
“It’s been a tough week for the guys. I guess I wasn’t expecting everything to happen,” Fritz said. ”I felt really, really good about our chances this week, but I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to be the last one standing at least and hopefully since I’m the last one the crowd will really get behind me and will me through it.”
Fritz will next face either 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic or qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter-finals.
“I had some battles the past couple matches, but just felt very dialed in, ready to go tonight,” Fritz added. “Thought I played just really solid, put a lot of balls in the court, was aggressive at the right times and backed it up well with good serving.”
