Officer Claims Life in Danger Amidst Accusations
Official questions lack of investigation, alleges mental distress from superiors.
A police officer claims his life is under threat and he is experiencing severe mental anguish due to the actions of higher officials. He expressed a desperate need for protection, questioning where he might find justice.
Questioning Past Allegations
The officer, identified as Sundaresan, questioned the timing of recent accusations, which reportedly span from 2005 to 2010. He argued that if the allegations were valid, he would have faced suspension or investigation during that period. Instead, he stated he was transferred to more significant roles.
“Even the best officers can’t do anything for me. Who will give me justice? I need protection as my life is under threat,” he stated. “I’m in mental agony, and I’ve been affected by (the actions of) higher officials. If anything happens to me, it is because of them,” he added.
Calls for Chief Minister’s Intervention
Sundaresan specifically questioned the Chief Minister’s lack of involvement, suggesting that at the very least, the Chief Minister should have inquired with department heads about the accusations. He also noted that not even the Director General of Police had personally addressed the allegations with him.
Despite his fears for his safety and mental state, Sundaresan affirmed that he would not resort to drastic measures, referencing the case of police officer Vijayakumar IPS who died by suicide.
Political Criticism Over Handling of Allegations
Meanwhile, Nainar Nagenthran, the state BJP president, criticized the DMK government. He accused the administration of dismissing individuals making accusations of harassment within the police force rather than addressing the concerns.
The government, instead of heeding the allegations of harassment of police officers, is dismissing those making the accusations from service. Will the DMK government realise that this anarchic approach not only affects the police force but also further undermines the already abysmal state of law and order?

His statement on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted concerns that this governmental approach negatively impacts not only the police force but also the general state of law and order. According to a 2023 report by the National Crime Records Bureau, cases of alleged police misconduct and brutality continue to be a significant concern across India (NCRB 2022).
