Tamil Authority Challenges Bollywood’s ‘Baaghi 4′ with ‘Madharas‘
Chennai, India – A new Tamil political thriller, Madharas, is emerging as a potential competitor to Bollywood’s upcoming action franchise installment, Baaghi 4, signaling a growing challenge to hindi cinema’s dominance in the Indian film market. while details surrounding Madharas remain scarce, its development coincides with a period of fluctuating box office performance for major Bollywood releases, including the recently released The Bengal Files.
The competition arrives as Baaghi 4, directed by Kannada filmmaker A Harsha, prepares for release, featuring Tiger Shroff alongside Sanjay Dutt, Sonam Bajwa, Shreyas Talpade, and others. The Baaghi franchise, launched in 2016 by sajid Nadiadwala, previously garnered significant international attention, with the third film earning nearly $5 million globally. Though, recent Bollywood releases have demonstrated varying degrees of success, exemplified by The Bengal Files,a political drama directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri - known for The Kashmir Files – which opened with approximately $250,000 and concluded its first weekend with under $1.5 million worldwide.
The Bengal Files focuses on the 1946 Direct Action day and Noakhali riots, starring Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakravorty, and Anupam Kher. Despite steady collections over the past five days, its performance falls short of Agnihotri’s 2022 hit, The Kashmir Files. The emergence of Madharas adds another layer of complexity to the competitive landscape, potentially diverting audience attention and revenue from bollywood’s action offerings.
