New Judiciary Takes Office in Tamaulipas, Promising Justice for All
Ciudad victoria, Tamaulipas – A new era for the judicial system in Tamaulipas dawned today with the swearing-in of newly appointed members of the Judicial Power of Tamaulipas. The solemn ceremony, held at the Local Congress and attended by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, marks the culmination of a landmark judicial reform aimed at increasing access to justice for all citizens.
The Polyforum RTC was filled with thousands of attendees – family, friends, civil society representatives, business leaders, and even a delegation of U.S.congressmen and diplomats - witnessing the historic event.
During the session, Humberto Prieto Herrera, President of the Local Congress, affirmed the legislature’s commitment to supporting the ongoing judicial reform. This support will manifest through the establishment of clear regulations, responsible budgeting, and robust accountability measures designed to strengthen the judiciary while respecting its independence. He credited Governor Villarreal Anaya‘s leadership in initiating the reform and praised the collaborative efforts of all three branches of state government and the evaluation committees that ensured a clear and equitable selection process.
Tania gisela Contreras López, the newly elected President of the Supreme Court of Justice of the State, delivered a powerful address, framing the occasion not merely as a change in administration, but as a fundamental restructuring of the judicial power – one firmly rooted in the will of the people.
“For decades, access to justice was reserved for those who could pay or influence it,” Contreras López stated. “Today we are here as the people decided to recover that right. We do not come to occupy a position, we come to lead a cause: return to justice its value, its transformative force and its place as a pillar of human dignity.” She pledged to build a new justice model, laying “a firm stone on the bridge that leads Tamaulipas to the future it deserves.”
Governor Villarreal echoed this sentiment, celebrating the event as the realization of Article 39 of the constitution, which recognizes the people as the ultimate source of public power. He highlighted Tamaulipas’ pioneering role in holding concurrent elections to renew its entire state judiciary.
“We obey the sovereign will of the people,a people who, based on their laws, modified a power in their claim of justice,” the Governor said. He lauded the responsible collaboration between the state’s three branches of government, calling the moment “an unpublished image of a renewed court, a legitimate legislature and an executive power respectful of popular sovereignty.”
The Governor concluded by emphasizing the public’s demand for a state governed by the rule of law, stating,”The Tamaulipeca society demands firm steps and forward… For that they were already chosen.”
