Tamaulipas Deputy ​Proposes Enhanced Digital‌ Protections for Children

TAMPICO,TAMAULIPAS – In response to growing concerns about online safety,Tamaulipas Deputy Pepe Schekaiban (PAN) has introduced legislation aimed at bolstering protections for children under 12 navigating the digital world. The initiative,presented‍ to the State Congress,focuses on safeguarding young people from risks present on popular ‍social media⁤ platforms like TikTok,Facebook,Instagram,adn ⁢Snapchat.

The proposal has a dual focus:​ amending the State of ​Tamaulipas’ Law on the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescents, and advocating for a⁣ reform ⁣to the‌ Federal Telecommunications ⁤Law. This combined approach seeks to establish a comprehensive⁣ legal framework dedicated to ensuring the‍ security, well-being, ⁢and holistic advancement of minors online.

Schekaiban highlighted the ‍increasing difficulty in controlling the content children ⁢access online, noting that the legislature⁣ has already made strides ⁢in addressing related issues like bullying, harassment, and privacy violations through criminal and educational reforms.

The core of the initiative centers on preventing children⁤ from falling victim to crimes, deception, cyberbullying, and other forms of​ online harassment. ‍ schekaiban emphasized a collaborative approach, proposing to work directly with digital platform developers to‍ prioritize ‌the‌ mental and emotional ‍health⁢ of young users.

Moreover, the legislation⁣ underscores‍ the crucial role ⁤of parental ​involvement,‍ seeking to reinforce the responsibility ⁤of parents and guardians in actively monitoring their children’s ‍social media activity. Schekaiban clarified that‍ the intent is not to limit access to ​valuable educational resources, ​but rather to ​proactively prevent harm and protect the healthy development of Tamaulipas’ youngest⁢ citizens ‍in the digital age.
