Hungarian International Nikitscher Completes Last-Gasp Transfer to Rio Ave

Rio ave, of the Portuguese Primeira Liga, secured the signing of midfielder Tamás Nikitscher just moments before the close of the european summer transfer window on Monday night. The 25-year-old joins from Spanish second-division side Real Valladolid, finalizing a deal announced at 2:00 AM local time.

Nikitscher, an eight-time Hungarian national team player, sought a new club after a brief stint with Valladolid, where he participated in thirteen La Liga matches and one Segunda División championship. The transfer underscores the often frantic nature of deadline day in professional football, impacting Rio AveS squad depth and Nikitscher’s career trajectory as he aims to establish himself in a new league.

Rio Ave reportedly paid €500,000 (approximately 198 million Hungarian forints) for Nikitscher’s playing rights, securing him on a four-year contract. The Portuguese club finished 12th in the previous season and currently sits 11th in the league table after three matches – having played one fewer game than most competitors – with three consecutive draws. Nikitscher’s arrival is expected to bolster their midfield options as they continue their campaign.

The midfielder confirmed his move from Valladolid in January, and now transitions to Portugal seeking consistent playing time and further advancement within a competitive European league.
