Taiwan's 22 counties and cities vary garbage collection for National Day

Taiwan’s 22 counties and cities vary garbage collection for National Day

October 10, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The 2026 Double Ten National Day holiday spans three days from October 9 to October 11, with municipal waste collection schedules varying sharply across Taiwan’s 22 counties and cities. While Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and高雄 maintain normal operations on the October 9 compensatory holiday and October 10 holiday, other jurisdictions like Taichung and Tainan have implemented localized suspensions and designated drop-off points.

Taipei and New Taipei Normal Operations Alongside Sunday Suspensions

Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau announced that garbage collection will proceed normally on both the October 9 compensatory holiday and October 10 National Day. Regular general waste collection halts on Sunday, October 11, prompting the city to open 30 temporary waste reception points for residents unable to hold their refuse.

New Taipei City maintains an identical operational rhythm with normal collections on Friday and Saturday, followed by a Sunday suspension. Residents in New Taipei seeking disposal options on October 11 can utilize 22 scheduled drop-off locations, provided they adhere to dedicated bag regulations.

Taichung and Tainan Adjust Holiday Collection Schedules

Taichung City keeps regular collections on October 9, but suspends standard curbside pickup on October 10 in favor of fixed-time, fixed-location services. Sunday operations remain entirely suspended across the city.

Tainan City divides its 37 districts for the October 10 National Day. While 22 districts maintain normal collections—including East, West Central, Anping, South, North, Anan, Yongkang, and various rural districts—15 other districts suspend operations entirely on the holiday. The affected districts—such as Xinying, Liuying, Xiaying, Xigang, Jiali, Shanhua, Anding, Xuejia, Beimen, Dongshan, Baihe, Liujia, Qigu, Jiangjun, and Xinshi—received overtime collections on October 9 to compensate for the gap.

County-Level Variations Across Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Changhua

Hsinchu County’s 13 townships enforce individual schedules, with a total shutdown across the county on Sunday, October 11. Zhubei, Hukou, Qionglin, and Baoshan maintain normal pickups on October 9 and 10, whereas Zhudong suspends service on Friday before resuming on Saturday. Hsinfeng, Xinpu, Guanxi, Hengshan, Beipu, Emei, and Jianshi implement various localized suspensions starting as early as Friday.

Miaoli City, Miaoli County, maintains normal pickups on Friday and Saturday, suspending service on Sunday. Other townships like Gongguan, Zhuolan, and Sanyi adjust operations independently, with Zhuolan’s Shiziting station shifting pickup times forward.

Changhua County preserves curbside service along most routes on October 9, though select fixed points pause. October 10 brings partial roadside suspensions, while October 11 shuts down all general routes except for fixed-point services maintained within Changhua City.

Regional Schedules in Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung

Nantou County implements staggered suspensions, with Renai Township shutting down operations continuously across all three holiday dates from October 9 to October 11.

Yunlin County’s 20 townships coordinate individual frameworks where Douliu suspends collections on Friday but operates normally on Saturday. Huwei, Tuku, Yuanzhang, Xiluo, Lunbei, Shuilin, and Kouhu suspend service on both October 10 and October 11, relying on Friday as their primary collection window.

Chiayi County operates normally on Friday and keeps Saturday schedules active everywhere except Alisan乡, before pausing all routes on Sunday. Kaohsiung City maintains standard waste removal on both October 9 and October 10, closing operations on Sunday, October 11.

Pingtung and Eastern Regions Maintain Partial Services

Pingtung City keeps morning fixed-point collection and evening neighborhood routes running on October 9 and October 10, alongside resource recovery operations, before observing the Sunday suspension. Eastern jurisdictions like Yuli in Hualien County suspend morning scheduled drop-offs on Friday while maintaining other routes.

Penghu County’s Magong, Huxu, and Xiyu maintain normal operations on Friday and Saturday. Magong shifts to suspended curbside routes but keeps fixed-time, fixed-location services active on Sunday.

Kinmen County’s Jincheng Township operates morning market routes normally through the holiday, while evening garbage trucks run on Friday and Sunday but pause on October 10.
