TAIPEI,Taiwan - A 29-year-old man’s elaborate marriage proposal in Taipei’s Songshan District took a dramatic turn in June when an illegally parked Mercedes-Benz led to a police investigation,the revelation of drugs,and his arrest. The incident, recently gaining viral attention after photos of the arrest circulated online, highlights a bizarre intersection of romance and legal trouble.
According to local media reports, police approached the vehicle after noticing it was parked illegally. The driver, identified as Mr. Huang, displayed a “flurry attitude” and appeared nervous during the initial interaction.Suspecting possible drug involvement, officers requested a search of the car, which Mr. Huang resisted, allegedly even intimidating the officers.
During the ensuing detention, which involved officers “catching [him] down to the ground,” the trunk of the vehicle unexpectedly opened, revealing marriage proposal accessories and a sign reading “MARRY ME.”
Mr. Huang later confessed to possessing drugs and was promptly arrested. The failed proposal has since become a widely shared story on social media, drawing both criticism and amusement.
