xiaomi 17 Pro Demonstrates Strong Durability, Features Unexpected Build
The Xiaomi 17 Pro, currently available in China, recently underwent rigorous durability testing by American YouTuber Zack Nelson. The tests revealed impressive scratch resistance on the front display and a surprising material choice for the phone’s back panel.
The 6.3-inch smartphone, visually similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, distinguishes itself with a secondary screen located on the rear, adjacent to the camera module. The AMOLED screen is protected by Dragon Glass 3.0, which resisted scratches up to Mohs hardness level 6. Visible scratches only appeared at level 7, placing it’s scratch resistance nearly on par with Apple’s Ceramic Shield 2, which performed marginally better in testing.
Though, Xiaomi utilizes the Dragon Glass 3.0 only on the front of the device. The back panel, unexpectedly,is constructed from plastic rather than glass - a common feature in more affordable smartphones. While the plastic construction is more resistant to shattering than glass, it did exhibit scratches at the standard level 6 on the Mohs scale. The frame of the phone is made of anodized aluminum.
Despite the plastic back, the Xiaomi 17 Pro successfully passed the JRE bend test, indicating overall structural integrity. A subsequent teardown of the device was also conducted, details of which are available in Nelson’s video.
