WSU โFootball Player Shot Following Apple Cup โฃWeekend
PULLMAN, Wash. – A โคWashington State University football player was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the abdomen early Sunday morning following an altercation at an off-campus apartment complex, according to Pullman Police Department reports.
Police โresponded to a shooting at โthe โคAspen Heights Apartments around โ1:47 a.m. afterโค the Apple cup โฃgame betweenโค WSU and โคthe University of Washington. Upon arrival, officers found the redshirt freshman offensive lineman sufferingโข from the injury. โคHe was transported to Pullman Regional โคHospital where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet.
initial investigation โindicates the shooting occurred after a dispute at a party. The player told police he and friends were asked to โฃprovide security at the gathering. He intervened in twoโค separate altercations -โ one โinvolving an assault on a woman โin the backyard, and another involving a second woman – beforeโค being shot. The player reported limited recollection of events following the shooting.
Witnesses reported seeing a suspect and โฃassociates leaving the scene in โa darkโข sedan.A 9mm pistol was recovered at theโค apartment complex. Police identified the suspect through social media โand confirmed his affiliation with the โUniversity of Washington andโฃ residence in Tukwilaโ withโ assistance from UW Police.
A felony warrant has been โขissued for the suspect on charges of first and fourth-degree assault. Authorities haveโค not yet released the suspect’s name.
WSU released a statement confirming the incident andโ stating the student-athlete is โrecovering withโค family support. โฃThe university is providing resources to students impacted by the event, including the Counseling and Psychologicalโค Services (CAPS) team at 509-335-4511 โand โthe Deanโค of Students Office.
