Tencent Reports 20%โ R&D Efficiency Boost with AI Tools
SHENZHEN – Tencent โHoldings, the Chinese techโ giant behind โWeChat and the world’sโ largest gaming business, โฃannounced a more than โ20% increase in research andโ development โฃ(R&D) efficiency thanks toโ artificial intelligence-powered automation,โ according to โฃa newly released report.
The company’s โขResearchโข and Development Big Data Report 2025 detailed a 67% rise in R&D automation rates following the implementation of its in-house AI platform, WeDev. โฃ AI tools have already identifiedโ overโ 25% โof code-relatedโค issues across Tencent’s products and services thisโฃ year, reducing bug-fixing time by an average of eight โฃhours per incident.
Tencent stated that 90% of its engineers are currently utilizing its CodeBuddy AI โcoding tools, โขwhich are powered by the company’s hunyuan foundational models.
This disclosure positions Tencent as one of the โขfirst Chinese tech companiesโ to publicly quantify the benefits ofโฃ integrating AI intoโฃ its R&D processes. Alibaba Group Holdingโ reported โlast month that approximately 30% of โฃits โcode is now โgenerated by โAI, according to chairman Joe Tsai during an โฃappearanceโ on the All-In โpodcast.
