Jakarta –
Heavy rain still has the potential to be present in the Greater Jakarta area and a number of other areas outside of Java, Monday, July 7, 2025. The potential for raining is evenly distributed, and in some regions accompanied by lightning.
The Climatology and Geophysics Meteorology Agency (BMKG) predicts that the potential for rain today is in the area around Jakarta, Regency and City of Bogor, and Depok City. While the Bekasi and Tangerang areas are estimated to have cloudy weather.
Prediction of heavy rain also applies other regions in Indonesia. Previously, BMKG Public Meteorology Director Andri Ramdhani said, weekly weather forecasts for the period 4-10 July 2025 showed that the potential for heavy rain was still high in various regions.

In July 4-6, the areas that need to be watched out for include West Sulawesi, Maluku and South Papua for the category of heavy rain standards. While strong winds have the potential to occur in the Riau Islands, Banten, West Java, East Java, Bali, NTB, NTT, and several regions in Sulawesi and Papua.
“On July 7-10, the potential for rain is very heavy even estimated in the mountains, while the Maluku region is still in the standby category. The community must remain vigilant, especially against flash floods, landslides, and daily disruption,” Andri said.
Researcher of the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Erma Yulihastin, said the phenomenon of the Cumulonimbus or Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCC) clouds is the origin of high intensity rain during the weekend in Jabodetabek and other regions in southern Indonesia.
“The MCC cloud cluster activity that continues to expand intensively is formed in the North Java Sea of Central Java-East Java. Causing heavy rain and high waves in the sea,” Erma wrote in a tweet on her X account, Sunday (6/7) night.
In her latest update, Erma said the effect of Vortek’s cyclonic activity in the Indian Ocean has triggered the formation of MCC and Squall Line in Sumatra Persistent and continues to spread to Kalimantan and Java.
“Now it has even spread to Kalimantan,” Erma said via text message on Monday (7/7/2025) morning.
Erma explained, it took 6-9 hours for a collection and row of cumulonimbus clouds that brought the potential for heavy rain to spread to Kalimantan. Or, 12-24 hours to Java. That, too, MCC which has been decorated can be reinforced because it interacts with the temperature of the warm Java Sea.

Italy is currently grappling with a severe heatwave, triggering red alerts in 20 cities as of today. The intense heat is creating hazardous working conditions, especially in northern factories and for outdoor laborers in the south. Simultaneously occurring, the island of Crete is struggling to contain wildfires that have forced thousands to evacuate. A shift in weather patterns is anticipated over the weekend, bringing potential relief in the form of thunderstorms and cooler temperatures.
The ongoing heatwave is not only impacting daily life but also raising concerns about worker safety. With temperatures soaring, discussions are underway regarding the implementation of the Cassa integrazione Guadagni (CIG) when temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius, even if that temperature is only perceived. This measure aims to protect workers from heat-related illnesses and ensure their well-being.
Did You Know? The CIG, or Wage Supplementation Fund, is a tool used in Italy to support workers who are temporarily suspended or working reduced hours due to circumstances beyond their control.
the island of Crete is facing a critical situation as wildfires, intensified by strong winds, continue to rage. Approximately 5,000 residents and tourists have been forced to evacuate as firefighters work tirelessly to contain the blazes. According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), wildfires have burned over 500,000 hectares of land in the European Union since the start of 2024, underscoring the increasing threat posed by wildfires across the continent.

Pro Tip: Stay updated on local alerts and advisories from official sources during extreme weather events like heatwaves and wildfires.
Recent reports indicate that the fire on Crete is beginning to abate, with no major active fire front. However, firefighters remain vigilant due to the risk of potential flare-ups. Approximately 230 firefighters, supported by 48 vehicles and six helicopters, are still deployed near the coastal city of Ierapetra.
A welcome change in weather conditions is expected over the weekend, with temperatures predicted to decrease across Italy. Thunderstorms are also anticipated, although these events are expected to be localized and difficult to predict with precision. The potential for intense storms remains a concern.
| Region | Current Condition | Weekend Forecast |
|---|---|---|
| Northern Italy | Heatwave | thunderstorms, Temperature Drop |
| Southern italy | Heatwave | Thunderstorms, temperature Drop |
| Crete | Wildfires | Potential for Reduced Winds, Possible Rain |
How are local communities preparing for the anticipated thunderstorms? What long-term strategies can be implemented to mitigate the impacts of future heatwaves and wildfires?
Heatwaves and wildfires are becoming increasingly frequent and intense due to climate change. Understanding the underlying causes and implementing effective mitigation strategies are crucial for protecting communities and ecosystems. Factors contributing to these events include rising global temperatures, prolonged droughts, and changes in land use patterns.
Heatwaves can lead to heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and those with chronic conditions, are particularly at risk.
Stay hydrated, seek shade or air-conditioned environments, avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours, and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Dry vegetation, strong winds, and high temperatures can all contribute to the rapid spread of wildfires. Human activities, such as unattended campfires, can also ignite wildfires.
Clear vegetation around homes and buildings, properly dispose of flammable materials, and adhere to local fire restrictions and regulations.
climate change is causing global temperatures to rise, leading to more frequent and intense heatwaves. Warmer temperatures also dry out vegetation, making it more susceptible to wildfires.

Residents of Kanto and surrounding areas should prepare for fluctuating weather patterns this week. The rainy season is nearing its end, paving the way for intense heat, guerrilla thunderstorms, and a potential increase in tropical cyclones. Authorities are urging vigilance due to these changing conditions.
Unstable air conditions are set to bring rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, July 2nd. These storms are expected mainly in Hokkaido and Kinki. There’s a high likelihood of lightning, along with extremely heavy rain and thunderstorms, especially in the Kanto and Koshin regions. Even urban areas should be cautious of sudden, severe weather.
The volatile atmosphere is forecast to continue from Thursday the 3rd through Friday the 4th, with rain and thunderstorms expected. Residents should remain alert for lightning, strong winds, and hail during this period.
Sunshine is likely to dominate the country from Saturday, July 5th. The rainy season might conclude in Tokai, Kanto, Koshin, and Hokuriku around this time. After this date, even more intense heat will arrive. Temperatures could reach 37°C in central Tokyo and 38°C in Nagoya and Osaka.
This level of heat poses significant health risks, necessitating strict measures to prevent heatstroke. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings, urging residents to stay hydrated and seek shade during peak hours.
Developing cumulonimbus clouds over the southern sea indicate the potential for tropical cyclones and typhoons. Several weather models predict these could form in the future. Some forecasts suggest that a storm might head towards Okinawa. The course and development of these weather systems warrant close monitoring, as they could bring severe weather to Okinawa.
From Wednesday the 9th, strong sunlight will prevail from Kyushu to Tokai. Sunny conditions are anticipated to increase in the Kanto region, though sudden rain and thunderstorms are still a possibility. Clouds are also expected to spread across Tohoku and Hokkaido, with frequent rainfall likely in Okinawa. The high temperatures will persist. Fukuoka City, Osaka City, and Nagoya City will likely experience extremely hot days, with highs of 35°C or higher. Even central Tokyo can expect temperatures around 33 degrees Celsius. Sendai City is also likely to see midsummer temperatures with highs above 30°C. The unrelenting heat necessitates continuous health precautions.
