For a balanced performance in combination of processor and memory, it does not always have to be the high-end memory. With the TeamGroup T-Create DDR5-7200 CL34 we have a DDR5 storage player in the test, which has different XMP and Expo profiles that we once examined.

AMD and Intel specify their memory controllers for certain speeds depending on the assembly. The processor manufacturers usually act more carefully when validating their memory controllers. For example, AMD specifies a maximum memory clock rate of 5,600 mt/s-both in single and dual-channel operation, when using Udimms with one or two ranks. Intel, too, initially mentions 5,600 mt/s as a default value, but with Cudimms, but already allowed up to 6,400 mt/s-also in a dual-channel operation with one module per channel and modules in 1R or 2R version.

However, if the memory is operated with four modules – two per channel – both manufacturers lower the officially supported clock rates. AMD reduced to DDR5-3600, Intel to DDR5-4800. It is therefore advisable to stay with two modules. This has little disadvantages for everyday life, also with regard to the maximum accessible storage capacity: individual modules offer up to 64 GB, which can easily be realized with two modules 128 GB DDR5-5600.

There are sensible guidelines for the memory speed for both AMDS and Intel’s current platform. While this is 6,000 MT/s in the Ryzen processors, the Intel CPUs can usually cope with 7,200 mt/s and more easily. Exactly in this notch, Teamgroup now hits the T-Create DDR5-7200 CL34.

In principle, Teamgroup offers the T-Create kits with capacities of twice 16, 24, 32 and 48 GB. Depending on the kit capacity, the specifications then move between 5,600 and 7,600 mt/s, whereby there are also differences in the timings depending on the clock. The TeamGroup T-Create Expert with 2x 16 GB, DDR5-7200 and CL34-42-42-84 were available to us.

Teamgroup delivers the T-Create kit we tested with a total of four profiles. This is an XMP and Expo profile for GDR5-6000 and DDR5-7200. There are also different guidelines for timing and tension for the different cycle levels. While DDR5-6000 timings are 1.25 V of CL38-38-38-78-116, DDR5-7200 timings from CL34-42-84-126 and a tension of 1.4 V.

In addition to the technical data and profiles, it is certainly also an important point that TeamGroup does not use a high-rise Heatspreader and RGB lighting. Due to this waiver, the modules only come to a height of 32 mm. This should not lead to incompatibilities with widening coolers.

Benchmarks

We tested the two storage cits on the ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 APEX. An Intel Core Ultra 9 285K was used as a processor.

Synthetic benchmarks

As always, we start with the synthetic benchmarks. We carried out the tests with DDR5-6000 CL38 and DDR5-7200 CL34.

In the case of writing, reading and copying sentences, a very good scaling of 5,600 mt/s, over 6,000 mt/s, towards 6,400 mt/s and finally 7,200 mt/s. The values ​​for 5,600 and 6,400 mt/s can be seen as the base specification if the Udimms and Cudimms are operated on the newer platform on the everych specifications on Intel’s newest platform. DDR5-7200 at CL34 are perfect requirements, which are also expressed accordingly in the measured values.

In the Y-Cruncher, the increased memory bandwidth for DDR5-7200 CL34 shows quite clearly, while the profile with DDR5-6000 is much closer to the verified memory speeds.

Gaming-Benchmarks

Now we come to the measurements in games:

Not all games benefit similarly from a higher memory speed and this is then also evident in a different performance plus of the two profiles. In the scenario used by us, rather CPU-limited, the plus can be 10 % and more. In practice, the FPS differences are then a little lower, on quick memory and loading a simple XMP or Expo profile, but is still one of the simplest methods to accelerate your gaming system a little.

Whether a memory module is operated with 1.1, 1.2 or 1.4 V makes a difference, which shows our measurements of the temperature after a permanent load of 30 minutes. The TeamGroup T-Create Expert do not have any particularly high temperatures at DDR5-6000 and 1.2 V and remain at around 50 ° C. In the faster profile with DDR5-7200 and 1.4 V, on the other hand, we get significantly more than 60 ° C. This may also be due to the fact that the modules do not have a large heat preter, which, on the one hand, can be a pre-cooling but also a disadvantage.

Conclusion

So slowly but safe an end of the GDR4 era is emerging And if you decide to buy a new gaming or productive system, you can no longer avoid buying a DDR5 kit. The selection is gigantic-not only from different manufacturers, but also series and thus capacities, speeds and, last but not least, optical properties such as RGB lighting. However, everything begins with the question of whether it should be an overclocking kit at all, because if you rely on an absolute stability of your system, you should rely on the memory speeds validated by the CPU manufacturer in the productive area. With Intel and the Core-Ultra-200S series, this also means that Cudimms have become an option with 6,400 MT/s.

The TeamGroup T-Create Expert choose the rather inconspicuous path and focus on the essentials. The Udimms each provide an XMP and Expo profile for GDR5-6000 and DDR5-7200. Interestingly, Teamgroup for the 6,000 MT/s with CL38 chooses more relaxed timings than is the case for the faster profile with 7,200 MT/s and CL34. This makes the faster profile more clearly from the standard clock rates and your own, slower profile.

While DDR5-6000 for the Ryzen processors are the so-called Sweet Spot in terms of timing, the timings could have been a bit sharper here. Due to the unequal partial ratio for AMD’s processors, DDR5-7200, on the other hand, are less sensible and therefore aim at users of an Intel CPU. There would also be room for improvement here, but in the combination of clock and timings, the TeamGroup T-Create Expert with this profile can describe themselves as very well balanced.

If you do not have the space for high-build heat preters and prefer a rather simple design without RGB lighting, you will also find a good pairing with the Teamgroup T-Create Expert. With regard to the cooling, this is reached by 1.4 V and without an air flow by the CPU cooler to their limits, but we have already tested memory modules that became significantly heated in this voltage.

For GDR5-7200 and combined with timings from CL34, the Teamgroup T-Create Expert are at a capacity of 2x 16 GB with a price of 125 Euro worth a look. The highlight of this series is certainly the compact design and lack any distraction in the form of RGB lighting. After that you have to search for something in this segment.
