Slovan Bratislava: Future Uncertain as Change Looms – European Conference League News

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 14, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Slovan Bratislava is experiencing a successful period. However, an inevitable change awaits him.

The second oldest team in the Conference League

The average age of the team is 27.6 years. It is the highest in the domestic competition and the second highest in the Conference League. The oldest players are also the leaders – Džaba Kankava (37 years old), Juraj Kucka, Guram Kašia, Milan Borjan (36 each), Vladimír Weiss Jr. (34).

SK Slovan Bratislava trainer Vladimír Weiss senior. expects that Thursday’s final duel of Group A of the European Conference League (EKL) against NK Olimpija Ljubljana (9 p.m.) will bring attractive and offensive football.

Among the under-27s, only Lucas Lovat (26), César Blackman (25) and David Strelec (22) are trusted in tough European matches. In the domestic competition, Filip Lichý (22) and Nino Marcelli (18) start more regularly. Slovan lacks prospects in several positions that would gradually replace the outgoing leaders and at the same time be monetized in the future.

Many with an uncertain future

According to Transfermarkt, as many as 15 players from the 25-man squad will have their contracts or loans expire by the next summer. Malik Abubakari and Sharani Zuberu are visiting only until December 31. Slovan has an option on both. However, they appear minimally, do not reach numbers and their persistence is rather improbable.

Marko Tolič and David Strelec are on loan until the end of the season with the option of a permanent transfer. Their stay will also depend on the amount of the agreed options, the club did not disclose their values. The shooter is getting in shape after returning to Slovan and expressed his ambition to stay at Tehelno poli. “I want to play so that Slovan redeems me,” he said after his debut.

Milan Borjan is on loan at Slovan without an option. With Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, he has a contract valid until the summer of 2026, he expressed interest in returning.

The contracts of the following players will expire at the end of the current year – Kucka, Kankava, Kašia, Weiss Jr., Barsejjan, Lovat, Zmrhal, Pauschek, Križan, Agbo.

Trainer Vladimír Weiss sr. often singles out the first three named as exemplary professionals. Thanks to this, despite their advanced age, they can help the team in the next season as well. Weiss Jr. although he is younger, he is increasingly limited by injuries. Agba and Križana are used minimally by the coach and it would be surprising if they received new contracts.

To replenish and rejuvenate, Weiss wishes

“We know which players we want to continue with in the future,” General Director Ivan Kmotrík Jr. did not specify the names: “We also have alternatives ready in case of any additions to the squad. Most of the contracts end in the summer, so now in the winter we don’t perceive it so dramatically.

It will be important for us to keep the squad together. And maybe they supplemented it with 1-2 players. But I certainly do not expect drastic changes during the winter transfer period. After that, there will be enough time to prepare for what we will demand from the team in the next season.”

VIDEO: Godfather: There is interest in Slovan players abroad. What’s coming up in winter?

“I believe that the key players will stay,” added coach Weiss: “The contracts of many of them will expire in the summer, so we will agree with them on their further activity in Slovan. And I also believe that we will supplement and rejuvenate the team appropriately. We have an experienced team and no one will play until they are 100 years old. But we have to do it continuously and sensibly.”

Will they fulfill their promise to Čavrič about the transfer?

The future of the main star Aleksandar Čavrič is also uncertain. Slovan announced an offer of an improved contract for the offensive ace, but the Serb has not yet signed it. In the summer, he had one foot in Rubina Kazan. As he continues to perform well, it can be expected that he will have even more interesting offers in the winter.

“What we promised him, that we would allow him another engagement in the winter, that will probably happen. As long as there is continued interest in him,” Weiss declared at the end of September.

A month later, he said: “There is a lot of interest in Čavrič, but he has a new contract for two and a half years on the table. I believe he will sign it and stay in our colors.” His current contract expires in the summer of 2025. A possible transfer must make sense for all parties.

A great result that should not be underestimated. Slovan Bratislava drew in the Conference League with the champion of France two years ago and currently the fifth Ligue 1 team.

There is interest in players abroad. Just so they don’t leave for free

Those interested from abroad are reportedly not only asking about Čavrič. “We are registering a certain interest in our players. We probably know who we are talking about. If we proceed with any sales, we will have to compensate for these losses,” confirmed Kmotrík Jr.

In addition to Čavrič, the Brazilian with the magical left-hander Lucas Lovat or the in-form Tigran Barsejgan could also be monetized for Slovan. The problem is that both are out of contract after the season and can negotiate with any club on a free transfer from January 1st (effective July 1st).

If Slovan does not agree on a new contract with them, he can try to sell them during the winter, but only for a fraction of their real value. In recent months, Myenty Abena, Vernon De Marco, Jurij Medvedev and Andre Green left the club.

Last year, before the end of the group stage of the Conference League, he was teetering on the edge, playing for everything. There’s no drama this time.

Will Slovan fight for Polievka again?

So far, there is unprecedented silence about potential arrivals. “Things are done, but I’ll keep it to myself,” Kmotrík Jr. hid. It can be expected that Slovan will at least investigate the possibilities of the arrival of Róbert Polievka from Banská Bystrica, in whom he was eminently interested in the summer.

“We’ll see what the next months bring. I am currently concentrating on Dukla as much as possible and I want to help her at least until the winter. If there is an interesting offer on the table, the management of Dukla is willing to negotiate,” declared Polievka in August, when his transfer to Slovan failed and he extended his contract with Bystrica until the summer of 2025.

In recent days, Slovak footballer Róbert Polievka was often shaken in the media in connection with his transfer to Slovan Bratislava. The striker of Banská Bystrica and the national team showed great interest in joining the team of “whites”, but the clubs did not agree.

He does not give up the dream of the Champions League

Weiss st. already in the press after promotion to the spring part of the Conference League, he focused on the further improvement of the team: “Some crown will come to the club, which we can invest. I believe that Slovan will keep getting better. I believe that we will achieve the dream of the Champions League one day. For that, we all in the club have to put in two shovels and work even harder. To make good decisions so that we are always better.”

Before the last game of the successful cup season against Olimpija Ljubljana (on Thursday from 21.00 at Tehelno poli and RTVS), he added: “From countries or clubs like us, it (participation in the Champions League group) is possible once every three years. Step by step and I believe that it will come one day. Whether I live to see it or not, Slovan has the potential.”

Preview and Predictions for Upcoming European Football Matches

Above all, a single point from a double-header with Rangers means a single, big test of ability and resilience for Sparta in the decisive match against Betis. If they beat the Spanish club in the summer, they will be in the game for the Europa League playoffs even in the last round. Here is a paraphrase of a well-known saying from Czech football behind the scenes – it’s all about the weather.

“Sparta are extremely strong at home, and a cold evening can really hurt them. Temperatures well below freezing are not common in the south of Spain and it will be more difficult for the Betis footballers to get into the game after all. In addition, captain Krejčí is returning to Sparta, without whom the team has not been able to do so well in recent weeks,” Petr Urbanec, Tipsport bookmaker, believes in success.

He supported his optimism with odds of 2.47:1 for Sparta to win, which slightly favors them against Betis – 2.67:1. “Of course, we are aware of the opponent’s strength, his football skills and the experience of the players, so the odds of winning cannot be far from each other,” added Urbanec.

We don’t create as many chances in the Europa League as in the domestic competition, Brian Priske knows. Kuchta sometimes needs to be pushed, sometimes hugged. Video: Sport.cz

“The Spanish team experienced a temperature shock after arriving in Prague, from 18 degrees to zero. The guests may also have a problem with motivation, the team from the Czech Republic is ‘not a rival’ for them, moreover, they beat them in the first game. Even a point would be enough for Betis, then the line-up may not be far from the strongest,” reflects Roman Kovařík, a Fortuna expert.

“However, the offensive potential of the team needs to be taken into account, the guests have scored in each of the last 14 competitive matches. There shouldn’t be a shortage of goals at Letná, both teams will probably come out on top. “Sparta could then win the half or the match at home, i.e. a bet within the framework of a double chance,” Kovařík advises.

“The biggest opponent for Betis will be the freezing weather. This is also why in the Czech Republic 70% are betting on the victory of the people of Prague, in the world the ratio is reversed. Personally, I think that if Sparta manages to score the first goal, it will take the duel to the winning end,” says Jakub Vilikus, chief bookmaker of Betano.

You enjoyed it! I learned that I would start the evening before the match and it surprised me, admits Jan Bořil. Video: Sport.cz

Chance accepted 51% of deposits on Sparta. “He definitely needs three points, but the opponent is very difficult. The first match in Spain showed that a top performance for the entire ninety minutes is needed for success. Letenský could not maintain this with the demanding style of play. At home, the Spartan position will be a little different. The traditionally great support of the spectators and the unpleasant weather for the Betis players could be a great ally. If Sparta avoids individual mistakes, it could succeed,” says Karel Brettschneider, Chance bookmaker.

Another Czech representative in the Europa League needs a point to advance, which Slavia should win in Moldova without any major problems. It is more likely that he will bring all three and the final round will decide the ranking of the top two places in the group. This is also evidenced by the 1.62:1 odds for Slavia’s win, which 95% of recruits go to. The odds for Sheriff Tiraspol are 5.27:1.

“Slavia beat Tiraspol 6-0 at home, this time it will be a significantly more difficult match. Difficult travel, a dangerous zone near a military conflict, a lawn whose quality will not be ideal. However, Slavia should be better running and tactically, Jureček reports an increase in form in the end. Tiraspol must play to win, which means taking risks and especially offensively. Such a style of play will suit Slavia. Both the home team and the away team could win the match. The ticket includes a two,” suspects Kovařík.

“Slavia plays on the ground of the weakest opponent in the group. “Bettors believe the stapled 95% of the time, often in combination with a tip on 3 or more goals scored,” reports Vilikus.

The funny coach of Pilsen Miroslav Koubek. What is it, what is it? I don’t know! Video: Sport.cz

In the Conference League, Pilsen leads the group table with 12 points. He will play the penultimate match against Ballkani. The team from Kosovo should be slightly more favorites (2.17:1), despite the necessity of moving the match from the home stadium to Albania. Bets on West Bohemia, which can no longer be threatened even by a possible loss, are bet at odds of 3.1:1. A draw is expected at odds of 3.7:1.

“Pilsen is in such a luxurious position that it can safely use players who did not get many opportunities in the season. With the certainty of the first place in the group, it will probably be a matter of adjusting well to the league, where Victoria is far from doing as well as it should. However, a larger number of changes in the lineup can mean interference in the team’s interplay,” Brettschneider points out. His office accepted 51% of the bets for the Ballkani win, 41% of the deposits go to Pilsen, and 8% for the draw.

“Coach Koubek has the rotation of the lineup in mind, the team needs to work especially on the weekend in Ostrava, which is a demanding season. On the other hand, the Kosovan national team has taken care of the motivation, they are fighting to stay in the competition and for that they absolutely need to win. The Ballkani team lost 0:1 in Pilsen, but had more ball possession. This time the roles will be reversed and the home team will win again by a goal,” says Kovařík.

“At Pilsen, changes in the lineup and investigation of some key supports can be expected. This is also why 75% of the bets on the success of the home team go through the dominance of Victoria so far. This number is similar in the Czech Republic and on foreign markets,” reports Vilikus.

Pilsen Coach Miroslav Koubek’s Strategy for Hectic Schedule and Conference League Playoffs

Pilsen Coach Miroslav Koubek’s Strategy for Hectic Schedule and Conference League Playoffs

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 30, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“We now have three matches in seven days, from this point of view alone we have to spread the load. The players already know how we’re going to do it, but I wouldn’t want to reveal the cards before the game. But we have to spread the burden on the entire staff,” coach Miroslav Koubek is quoted as saying on the club’s website.

His team’s program at the end of autumn is quite demanding. On Sunday, he will present himself in Ostrava, where he will move directly from Tirana on Friday. The following Wednesday (December 6) West Bohemia has a playoff in Mladá Boleslav, and on Sunday (December 10) a home duel with České Budějovice. On Thursday, December 14, they will play the final match in the Conference League group against Astana, three days later they will play in Olomouc.

Viktoria has already received almost 190 million crowns in bonuses in the Conference League, which is a considerable amount for a club that was still on the verge of bankruptcy last summer. Each win in the group is rewarded by UEFA with the amount of 500 thousand euros (approximately 12.5 million crowns), which is why the triumph over Ballkani is tempting for them.

But. Pilsen won’t say it fully, but given the situation in the league and certain participation in the round of 16 of the Conference League, they have a given priority for the rest of the autumn. A domestic competition. “Of course we want to win with Ballkani. But we are already thinking about Sunday’s match in Ostrava, we are losing in the league,” says stopper Robin Hranáč.

Koubek did not want to reveal in advance how much Plzeň will rotate the line-up. However, he will probably reach for bigger changes, the one between the posts is not ruled out either, where the young Viktor Baier could get another chance. With a poor attack and the absence of the scorer Tomáš Choré, 18-year-old Pavel Hašek could make his debut in the Pilsen A-team.

The match at the stadium in Tirana, where the Czech national team lost to Albania in the qualifiers in October (0:3), will start on Thursday at 18:45.

Slavia Football Club Hit with Record-Breaking UEFA Fine and Stadium Closure

Slavia Football Club Hit with Record-Breaking UEFA Fine and Stadium Closure

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 23, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Slavia Football Club has been fined a total of 91,625 euros (about 2.23 million crowns) for the events during the Europa League home match with AS Rome (2:0), which is the highest monetary penalty ever handed down by the UEFA disciplinary committee.

In addition, the people of Prague have conditionally closed the North stand, and assistant coach Zdeněk Houštecký was suspended for one match for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Among the Czech clubs, only Sparta received a higher fine in 2018 due to fan riots in the 2nd preliminary round of the Europa League with Spartak Subotica. Letenští paid two fines in the total amount of 100,000 euros (over two and a half million crowns in total) and had the stadium closed for the next home match in the cups.

The commission accused Slavia of organizational shortcomings and the behavior of fans in the stands. The people of Prague must pay 34,000 euros for blocking the staircase and exits and 30,000 euros for using pyrotechnics in the “cauldron” of the most active supporters in the North stand. According to UEFA, the fans were also guilty of provocative and insulting slogans (17,500 euros) and throwing objects onto the field of play (10,125 euros).

It is the North stand that is now in a condition due to the use of pyrotechnics. Sectors 106 to 110 at the Eden Stadium will be closed for one European Cup match if fans breach UEFA rules again in the next two years.

“Kotel” Slavia, which is located behind one of the goals, has already been in prison in the past. It was partially closed during, among other things, the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2019 against London’s Chelsea. In 2022, in the preliminary round of the European Conference League against the Gibraltar team St Joseph’s, the usual fans were not allowed in the north stand at all, but thanks to an exception from UEFA, almost three thousand children could take the seats.

Slavia now has a condition for both home and away matches. After the opening game in Rome (0:2) against AS, for the inappropriate behavior of its supporters, UEFA fined it 20,000 euros (almost half a million crowns) and in addition, for one cup match at the opponent’s field, the sale of tickets to the away section was conditionally prohibited, again with a two-year ban trial period.

Belinho: The New Neymar of Croatia

Belinho: The New Neymar of Croatia

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Already as a ten-year-old, he was stunning in his native Rio de Janeiro with his technical feats and goal-kicking, he had no equal on small pitches. “Trust me, he’s the new Neymar! With the ease with which he can weave his way out of the clutches of three opposing players, you have to foul him to take the ball away from him,” predicts Belinho’s agent and manager Andy Bara.

Although the little super dribbler will be fifteen in January, he still looks 10 years old when he came to Europe. He probably won’t grow much anymore, father Misael is also small.

“Belinho lost his mother at an early age, his father is unemployed, so he and his three other siblings took him to Croatia, where he first worked on a construction site in the seaside resort of Novi Vinodolski, where his son began to develop in football, last season he scored 16 goals for local pupils. After moving to Zagreb, he is already a small member of Dinamo. He goes to elementary school normally, speaks Croatian fluently. Now he’s been slowed down a bit by a shoulder injury, he started training two weeks ago, but his legs are still listening very well,” says Miroslav Střeleček, an expert on Croatian football.

The new Neymar should get Croatian citizenship by the end of the year.

“The Brazilian Football Association was late in swinging, Belinho only wants to represent in a checkerboard jersey, i.e. for the Croatian U-15 team next year,” advises Strěleček.

Erik Jirka shot down Slavia with two goals. I’m glad that the coach is giving me a chance and I can pay him back. Video: Sport.cz

“It hasn’t been that long since other Brazilians shone in Croatia’s first team – Eduardo da Silva or Sammir. Little Belinho will surely follow in their footsteps. I’m telling you, one day he will be the biggest transfer of all time in Dinamo,” assures Andy Bara, who sold the Spaniard Dani Olmo to Leipzig a few years ago from Dinamo. Dinamo earned, and thanks to the bonuses in the contract, they will get around 40 million euros.

As for Pilsen, he has to watch out for another foreigner in the evening. Japanese people.

“Dinamo, and especially coach Sergej Jakirovich, found a savior. The nimble Japanese striker Takuro Kaneko, known as the ‘Saitama Samurai’, after the first duel with Plzeň, helped to turn the match against Lokomotiva in the league as a substitute player in the setup (he scored for Baturin to make it 1:1, scored himself to make it 2:1). Last weekend, he also made a great cross to Mahira Emreli in the set-up for the final 1-1 draw in Varaždin. If it weren’t for that, coach Jakirovič would fly…,” points out Strěleček.

The Absence of Otter: Pilsen Coach Koubek’s Press Conference and Chorý’s National Team Nomination

The Absence of Otter: Pilsen Coach Koubek’s Press Conference and Chorý’s National Team Nomination

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“The absence of Otter is a big complication for us. We had four spikes, with this number you can vary at the top with the setup. Or just the switching factor itself, when you exchange piece for piece. Now our room for maneuver has narrowed rapidly,” sighed Koubek at Wednesday’s press conference in the Doosan Arena.

Only Tomáš Chorý and the unplayed Jan Kliment were left at his disposal. “I can’t imagine if there was another blackout. We got into a more tense situation in this position, but we have to deal with it somehow,” added the 72-year-old coach.

Due to the low workload of Kliment, it is certain that the number one striker in Pilsen is the fresh representative Chorý. He will start in the starting line-up against Zagreb.

“If Rafiu was healthy, he would definitely start with Zagreb. Now, because of his and Oydrys’ injuries, I’m number one. But it’s not just about me, it’s about the whole team, how it will work. I will want to help him as much as I can,” declared Chorý, who received the prime minister’s invitation to the national team. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý nominated him for the final duels of the qualification for Euro 2024 in Poland and with Moldova.

“Honestly, I did not expect the nomination. We went through all the youth representative categories, but this is my first time in the A team. But qualification is secondary now, I’m concentrating on the important match with Dinamo,” said Chorý.

Plzeň is certain – if they win over Zagreb, they will advance to the spring elimination part of the competition ahead of time. And if Ballkani were to draw with Astana at the same time, no one would be able to topple Viktoria from first place. Her duel with Dinamo Zagreb will start at Doosan Arena on Thursday at 18.45.
