Uberโข Driver Faces Charges after Shooting Teen in Dunwoody
DUNWOODY, Ga.โฃ (October 26, 2025) – A 38-year-old man โis inโฃ custody following aโค shootingโ outside a Dunwoody Waffle House early Sunday morning. Meredith Grundy has been charged with aggravated โassault โand firearm possession after allegedly shooting a โ16-year-old girl.
Police responded to a call at approximately 2:30 a.m.โฃ at the โคWaffle House located at 4532 Chamblee Dunwoody โRoad. investigators determined that fiveโ teenage girls hadโข requested an Uber ride โขfrom the restaurant. Uponโข arrival, the driver informed the group he โcould only accommodate four passengers due to vehicle capacity.
According โขto police reports, aโ dispute arose between the driver and the girls. Authorities state the driver alleges โขoneโ ofโฃ the girls threatened him and โphysicallyโฃ assaultedโ him while he was inside โคthe vehicle.The โdriver then discharged aโข firearm, strikingโฃ the girl who, he claims, initiated the physical altercation. However, the other four girls โขpresent โat the scene told police no assault โor threats โoccurred prior to the shooting.
The victim sustained three gunshot wounds – one to theโฃ back and โone to each leg – and was transportedโค to Children’s Healthcareโ of Atlanta. Sheโค is currently listed in critical but โstable condition.
Grundy was taken into custody and โbooked into the DeKalb county Jail.โข Uber has confirmed the driver’s access to the โคplatformโข has been revoked and the company โคis cooperating โฃwith the ongoing police investigation.
A spokesperson for Uber stated the reported incident wasโฃ “horrifying.”
The Waffle House manager deferred comment to corporate management.
