AccuWeather Forecastsโ Vivid Fall Foliage in 25 โคU.S.โ States This Year
A new report from AccuWeather predicts a “spectacular” fall foliageโข season โฃacross 25โฃ U.S.โ statesโฃ in 2025, an improvement over the reduced color seen in more states in 2024. However, experts caution the season โmay โคbe shorter then usual and increasingly impacted by climate change.
According to Paul Pastelok, AccuWeather’s lead long-range expert,โ travelers should “not wait too โlong to โขcheck out โฃthe leaves as they approach peak color” due to the perhaps limited duration of the display.โ
While color vibrancy will โvary regionally, the forecast indicates strong displays “coast to coast.” Colorado’s aspens are expected to be especially vibrant from September through mid-October, and New England should offer colorful views thanks to “ample” spring and summer โฃrainfall.Climate expert Brett Anderson notes that fall foliage relies onโข a “delicate โbalance of temperature, moisture and sunlight changes,” and that climate changeโ is creating “variabilityโ in both the timing and vibrancy of the season.”โ He added, “extremes linked to climate โwill likely have a โbigger impact on the vibrancy โฃand length of fall foliage season inโ the decades to come.”
The Appalachian andโ Smoky Mountain regions are expected to experience more muted colors due to โคflooding and heavy rainfall โขearlier in the โyear.โข
AccuWeather also warns of a potentialโฃ threat from late-season hurricanes, which can impact foliage for years in affected areas, potentially requiring “decades for trees to grow back in some places.”โฃ
Travelers โขare advised to look for cooler nightsโฃ and sunny days โคfor optimal viewing conditions.
