Makkah, saudi Arabia – Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has announced the launch of construction for ‘King Salman Gate,’ a large-scale, multi-use development project in Makkah, adjacent to AlMasjid AlHaram.
The project will cover an area of 12 million square meters and is intended to improve access to and services surrounding the Grand Mosque, supporting the objectives of the Congregation Experience Program.
‘King Salman Gate’ will include 50,000 residential units, 4 to 5+ star hotels, over 200,000 square meters of retail space, and prayer facilities with a combined indoor and outdoor capacity of approximately 900,000. The development will also feature parking for around 30,000 vehicles,managed by a dedicated operational team.
The project is designed to integrate with public transportation and will incorporate the restoration and development of approximately 19,000 square meters of heritage sites, preserving Makkah’s cultural and historical landmarks.
Developed by RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), ‘King Salman Gate’ is expected to generate over 300,000 jobs by 2036. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy away from oil and invest in tourism and infrastructure, with a national goal of welcoming 30 million worshippers annually by 2030.
