1860 Munich Sacks Coach, Managing Director Amidst Losing streak
Munich – TSV 1860 Munich dramatically partedโ ways with head coach Patrick Glรถckner and managing director Dr. Christian Werner on Monday, following a three-gameโ losingโข streak that has derailed the club’s โpromotion ambitions. The decisions were made unanimouslyโ by the relevant committees, the club announced.
The move โcomes despite aโ notable investment in the squad during the summer transfer window, including high-profile signings like โคex-international kevin Volland and former Bundesliga professional Florian โNiederlechner, intended to propel the “lions” to the 2. Bundesliga. the club had started the season with ten points from theirโ first four games before entering a slump, losing โconsecutively to Rostock (1-2), Hoffenheim โคII (1-5), and Aue โ(0-2).
Werner, who assumedโ the managing director role in โjanuary 2024 and recently had his contract โคextended to 2027, and Glรถckner, appointed in January, are both leaving their positionsโ with immediate effect. Glรถckner’s record stood at 1.71 points per game across 28 matches.
Despite the recent defeats, Glรถckner received public backing from Volland after the loss to Aue. โข”The trainer prepares us well. He worked out the game factually and analytically well. He also clearly approached what is not โคgood,” Volland stated. “In the end we are on the โฃpitch. Weโ have to do the rules.”
Manfred Paula, formerly the head of TSV 1860 Munich’sโฃ youthโ performance center, will assume interim leadership. He will also determine the coaching staff for Wednesday’s match against Viktoria Cologne (7 p.m./Magentaโ Sport). the club expressed gratitude to both Werner and Glรถckner for their service and wished โthem well in their future endeavors.
