Asteroidโค Roughly the Size of a Commercial Plane to Make Close Approach to Earth
ROME -โ An โasteroid โขestimated to โbe between 17 and 38 meters in diameter will pass near Earth this week, traveling atโค a speed exceeding 45,000 kilometers โคper hour. Despite its size and velocity, experts confirmโข the asteroid, designatedโฃ 2025 QD8, poses no risk of impact.
the Virtual Telescope Project captured an image of the asteroid on August 30 from a distance โof approximately four million kilometers as it approached Earth. โThe image, taken wiht the ‘Elena’ โฃtelescope, shows the โคasteroid as a “tiny point” against the backdrop of distant stars.
NASA and its partners are continuously discovering asteroids with Earth-approaching trajectories. Recently, asteroid 2025 OW passed within 640,000 kilometers of Earth at the end of โJune.โค However, NASA’s Center for Near โฃEarth Object Studies states it is “very unlikely that an asteroid is ableโ to cause damage to the land in the next 100 years.”
Asteroid 2025 OW, approximately 60 meters wideโ andโ irregularly shaped, completed a rotation every 1.5 to 3 minutes – one of the fastest rotation rates observed by the Goldstone Solar System radar system.
Earlier this year, the potential impact probability of asteroid 2024โ YR4 decreased to 0.0050%,removing it from notable monitoring concerns.
