Samsung Galaxy A16 5G tops Global Smartphone Sales in Q2 2025
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G was the world’s most popular Android smartphone in the second quarter of 2025, according to new data from Counterpoint Research. The device’s success is attributed to its affordability, solid performance powered by the exynos 1330 processor, and a commitment to six years of Android updates. This highlights a growing consumer preference for value and long-term software support in the smartphone market.
The top ten best-selling smartphones also included the Samsung Galaxy A06 4G in fourth place, offering basic functionality at a low price point, and the iPhone 16e in fifth, positioned as a more accessible entry into the apple ecosystem. Notably, only one flagship android device, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, made the list, reinforcing the trend toward budget-amiable options. Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C 4G was the sole smartphone from outside the Apple-Samsung dominance, gaining traction in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa due to its competitive pricing.
Minor shifts occurred between the first and second quarters, with the iPhone 15 replaced by the newer, more affordable iPhone 16e,featuring an Apple A18 ARM processor but lacking features like Magsafe and an ultrazerocal lens. The data suggests a market increasingly focused on value and sustained support, with Apple appealing to loyal customers through performance and Samsung catering to Android users with extended software updates. The global smartphone market currently appears largely divided between these two brands.
