abu Dhabi, UAE – Artist Mira Al-Qasim‘s latest exhibition explores themes of memory, โabsence, adn โคthe enduring power of theโค past through a series of portraits characterized by a deliberate lack of defined shadows. The works, currently on display,โฃ have drawn โฃcomparisons too the emotionally resonant style of Amedeo โModigliani.
The exhibition showcases Al-Qasim’s โฃunique approach, where the absence of shadows isn’t a technicalโ oversight, but a conscious artisticโข choice representing โคdistance from theโ subject and โฃthe โfading of memories. Critics, including โDr. Omar Abdel Aziz, note the paintings evoke a sense of both joy and melancholy, hinting at the complexities of human experience and theโฃ passage of โtime.
Alongside โฃthe portraits,Al-Qasim incorporates depictions of โฃvases โand utensils, demonstratingโ a mastery of visual โขformation influenced by photographic lightingโค and the aesthetics of the desert โlandscape.โ The artist intentionally avoids explicit explanation of her work, preferring to allow viewers to interpret the piecesโ based on their own cultural and โvisual understanding.
Al-Qasim’s background is multifaceted; she โis a practicing journalist,a published poetโ in both Nabati and eloquentโข Arabic, and a lyricist for Emiratiโค singers. She is also a memberโ of the Emiratesโค Writers and Writers Union and has exhibited her โขwork in โคprevious plastic โart shows. โThe exhibition reflects โขa convergence of her diverse artistic pursuits โ- formation, โฃpoetry, โขand journalism – into a โcelebration of heritage and remembrance.
