Macron Urged to Resign Amid French Political Crisis

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 8, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Paris, France – French‌ President Emmanuel Macron is facing mounting calls‍ to resign as⁣ France grapples‍ with ‍a deepening political ‌crisis, fueled by parliamentary deadlock⁢ and growing public anxiety following a⁢ series of prime minister changes. Former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe publicly urged Macron to consider early presidential elections following⁣ the passage of‍ the budget, a statement described as a “political bomb” by The parisian newspaper.

The ⁣pressure ⁤on‌ Macron comes after he unexpectedly triggered legislative elections in June 2024, a gamble intended to consolidate power that rather resulted⁤ in a fragmented parliament divided among three⁢ competing blocs. This ⁣has lead to political paralysis and instability, with Macron having appointed three prime ‌ministers in just one ⁢year. ⁣While Macron’s spokesperson, Aurore Berge, affirmed on Tuesday that the ‌President intends to⁢ serve out his full term until 2027,⁣ the ⁣calls for his departure are intensifying, notably as‌ potential presidential candidates like‍ Philippe position themselves for the next election.

According to a source close to Macron’s office, the President held talks Tuesday⁣ night with the leaders of the High Council⁢ and the⁤ Low Parliament Assembly, though the specific ⁣purpose of the meeting was not disclosed. The ‌French‍ constitution requires the President to consult with the chairmen of both assemblies‍ if new elections are planned.Marine‌ Le Pen, leader of the far-right, also ⁣sees an possibility to capitalize on the current political turmoil. Macron could‌ alternatively appoint an eighth prime minister during his presidency, but the move may not⁤ quell the growing ‌discontent.
