Spotify Data: Australian Music’s Global Rise in 2025

Australian music is experiencing a surge in global popularity, with streaming data revealing a 69% increase in international streams since 2020, according to Spotify’s latest Australian Music Global Impact List. The list, now expanded to a Top 50 ranking for the 2025 calendar year, highlights the growing export success of Australian artists.

Sia has been named Australia’s global music ambassador, becoming the first artist to top Spotify’s Global Impact List twice. Her collaboration with David Guetta, “Attractive People,” was the most-streamed Australian song internationally in 2025. She previously held the number one position in 2023 with “Gimme Love,” solidifying her position as a consistent global performer in the streaming era.

Tame Impala also demonstrated significant international reach, with seven tracks from their fifth studio album, Deadbeat, appearing in the Top 50. “Dracula” ranked highest for the band at number two, with four additional tracks landing in the Top 15, including “Loser” at number eight.

The Kid LAROI continued to maintain a strong global presence, securing seven spots on the list. His collaboration with Tate McRae, “I know love,” reached number three, while “A COLD PLAY” broke into the Top 10 at number nine.

Emerging Australian talent is also gaining international recognition. Lithe, in collaboration with American rapper Don Toliver, debuted at number four with “Cannonball.” Sri Lankan-Australian alt-pop artist kiki wera achieved a Top 10 placement with “Pool (Gravagerz Version),” demonstrating the increasing diversity of Australian artists connecting with global audiences.

The list also reflects a broader trend in the music industry: the enduring commercial value of catalogue music and remixes. The Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition,” a long-standing Australian export track, saw renewed global success through a remix by Lost Frequencies, re-entering international rotation over a decade after its initial release. Similarly, CYRIL’s rendition of The La’s “There She Goes” landed at number 16, highlighting the impact of remix culture.

Spotify data indicates that the United States remains the largest export market for Australian artists, followed by the UK and Germany. Although, demand is diversifying, with Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, and France ranking among the Top 10 international markets. Notably, emerging territories are experiencing the fastest growth, with South Africa recording a 99% increase in exports over the past three years, followed by the Philippines at 64% and Colombia at 53%.

Leah Harris, Spotify AUNZ head of artist and label partnerships, stated that the results demonstrate the transformative impact of streaming on the global reach of Australian artists. “It’s impossible not to feel the impact of Australian music wherever you go, whether that’s in the US, Europe, or emerging markets where local artists are finding passionate new fans,” Harris said. “The data behind Spotify’s Australian Music Global Impact List shows just how borderless music has become, and how artists from Australia are connecting with listeners around the world in deeper and more meaningful ways than ever before.”
